haha I just changed mine tonight, my friend had an extra at Advance autoparts, so I figured why not. It costs $2-4.

Take off your plastic engine cover (4 bolts) and look for #2 in the diagram

how it looks like:

i changed the one on my first gen, it costs like $3 at autozone and pretty much the easiest thing to do......easier than changing a light bulb

What's wrong with your PCV? Are you getting high idle-speed? or Did you find Oil in your Airbox? You can also check it on idle by pinching the PCV hose going into the intake manifold. There should be a clicking noise.

My 01 CLS NAVI has 93K on it. PCV never been replaced. Is this important to replace and/or will it make much difference on fuel efficiency or performace?

I think if it doesn't rattle, it's broken right?

i don't even remember making this thread. i must've had something wrong back then, but it probably corrected itself. now though, my check engine light is on and i'm having idle problems. i've already ordered a new iacv. should i change my pcv too? btw, i do hear this clicking noise under the hood.

It should rattle freely. If it doesn't rattle, it's probably clogged or gummed up.

Probably more significant if you're FI. A bad PVC can leak boost from the IM. It can also not relieve pressure from the crankcase causing a rear main seal to fail.

It's good to check it ocasionally in either case.

Strange thing about the PVC valve is that my dealer doesn't stock this item. This is usually an indication that it's not replaced very often. Parts guy thought I was nuts for needing to replace mine. I definitely had a stuck valve that needed to be replaced and when I explained my setup, he understood.
