Painting mudflaps
Painting mudflaps
Got my Acura mud flaps yesterday. I'm giving them to a shop to paint. These are rubber! Will they have any problems painting them? All the ones I had on other cars were hard plastic. I Was suprised.
I also just got mudguards and went to a body shop yesterday to ask about painting them. The owner said they are too soft and flexible to paint them without the paint cracking or flaking off. He said even if he added a flex agent to the paint it would not help because of their softness. My other car is a 1999 Toyota Avalon which has stiff mudguards that are painted and have never had a problem.

Given that there is a scoop side on the mudflaps... has anyone thought of reinforcing it with say an expozy resin or somethign close to BONDO?? THis can add the stiffness we need.
That's just great. If the guy won't paint them, then I guess they will be up for sale, or returned. I want them painted. How does a dealer paint them? I have seen painted ones on CL-S's before.

Juniorbean,
I dont think I have any chip or crack except the one I caused.
JasonT,
No, I didnt do it myself. I got them done at a local body shop. They did them with no warranty because of the material. I paid 100 bucks to have them painted.

I got to paint my mud flaps in my auto paint & body class, it was harder than I thought it'd be. In order to get the paint to stick to the plastic you have to scuff or sand the material. The problem is that the plastic primer that you have to use might make the scratches more severe and visible after painting (Same thing might happen if you want to paint your mirrors). Try it out though, I love my mirrors and mud flaps painted silver.
