Painting AEM CAI?

Anybody out there paint their CAI a different color?

Would this affect the heat dissipation?

Would I need to use a high temperature paint or does the CAI stay cool enough for normal enamel?

Why would you do that?? Please tell me you don't want to paint it pink or something! :P

I would use high-temp paint just because it's under the hood. you can probably get away with regular paint since the tube stays fairly cool, but why risk it.

Sorry I forgot to include the part about heat dissipation...

As long as you don't coat the tube heavily it will be ok. But too many coats will act as insulation and increase air temp.

It's a CAI ("Cold Air Intake"), where's the heat? If it's not on the exhaust it should be fine.

It's called cold air intake because it draws air from outside the engine compartment. Not because it magically stays cold. Run your engine for a while and see how warm the intake tube gets from radiant heat alone.

You want the densest air possible and if you heavily paint the intake you may negatively affect the heat dissipation properties of the aluminum tubing.

If you've ever driven a car w/ a CAI you'd know what he's talking about. The CAI gets hot, (not as hot as the headers and the rest of the exhaust) but it gets hot. I know this because I pop my hood on hot days at the track and I can feel how the the tube is, even towards the bottom where the filter is.

Hey fbazakos

Have you ever had a problem with your pulleys (in relation to your system)?

I have the RF 360.2 with a 1/2 farad cap so I'm thinking it shouldn't be a problem for everyday driving.
