to polish aluminum use wet sand paper to even everything out.. then use 600 then 1000 then 1500 then 2000 and u and go up to 4000 if u crazy lol..

also fine steel wool is really good too which ends up polishing it a bit.. but what u want is MOTHERs aluminum polish to top it all off. that makes it a mirror finish..

they inevitably get dirty tho... and u gotta go back and steel wool them and then re-polish every few months

as for the intake manifold.. if u want it to look mint i'd sand it so it's more even and so the paint really sticks.. if u wanna just geter done then start from this step.. buy acetone to remove any and all oils. and when u paint make sure u use an enamel paint or something with a hardener in it so it won't chip off in due time
