Over 50 mph shudder fixed - long but worth it!

..and you won't believe what fixed it. In D5 my auto CL-S at speeds over 50 mph would shudder and stumble, even after a new tranny, axles, front motor mount, wheel balancing, you name it I did it. These repairs came over a six month period, and I gave up for awhile and just used D4. In D4 it was perfect, or close to it. Two months ago the tranny went, so I thought that would finally fix it, but nope, still there. I was convinced it was the new (and old) torque converter, so I took it back to the local dealer, Tischer Acura. They too thought it was the TQ, but upon requesting a warrantee tranny replacement, Acura headquarters refused them. They told the techs to go for a ride in my car and record with their scan tool the shuddering for 30 seconds, and to then transmit the data to them. Result: intake plenum cover gasket was installed upside down. Nine long months ago I cleaned out the oil we all know about that collects in the intake, and although replacing the skinny gasket is simple enough I guess I messed up, and the car had EGR issues because of it. When I got home I could see that they had installed a new gasket and cleaned the entire intake and all those little holes out real well.
Car runs really well now, shudder completely gone, just wanted to share

naughty boy for sending the dealer on a goose egg hunt, but at least they found it, with it being caused by yourself

Wow. Your dealer is awesome. I would send them a gift. Not many would have figured out that gasket issue

stoned CL just get the intake manifold gasket from P2R and only use that.

It will significantly lower manifold temperatures, and it will seal perfectly.

^yup. i got a drop of more than 50deg. between my runners and intake manifold spacer. i also had the hood popped up in the back so cooling helped a lot. but it will lower temps significantly

Funny you say that I sent them a nice letter that basically said "Thanks". They know me now pretty well as I've been a customer there for ten years; two cars, parts and service now and then.
