Outside Temp guage

Ever since I had my '02, the outside temp guage has been wacky, especially when it get hot outside. Mostly, it seems to stay at whatever the temp reads when I start it up. Sometimes it seems to work within 5 degrees, but the thing just goes "dumb" when the outside temp hits 95 pl;us degrees. I've had a temp reading of 79 degress when the outside temp hit 105. The dealer says "All we have to go by is our thermometer in our shop, and if you are within 5 degrees, that's close enough and we can't do anything." I can never get the temperature to go dumb when at the dealer. Is there a re-set mode?

Hold the Reset and Select buttons down at the same time for about 10 seconds. You will be able to adjust it +3 to -3 degrees. I've noticed that if it is really hot outside and your car is parked, drive a bit and it will go down before you adjust it.

How do you adjust the temp by pushing and holding the buttons? Is one a + and the other a -¿

I'll try that again. I swear I tried holding both buttons in this weekend and nothing worked. As far as driving for awhile before getting the correct temp, yes, that should work. But I'm talking about driving for 24 miles back home after work and the temp guage reads something like 82 degress and it's actually 98 or higher. I was just wondering if there is anything mysterious about having the dealer just change the temperature sensor under warranty or better yet, why don't they have some way of testing the temp sensor to check it. I know on the scheme of things, a lousy temp sensor is a small item, but it bothers me that my wifes car (Toyota and a VW in the past) had accurate temp readings and my CL never has.
