I remember coming back to my car one moring and finding the glass scratched up right by the door handle. As if someone tried to slim jim it. So I think no! plus its not like they can start the car without the chipped key.

Like all cars there is a way to do it ,But it is not easy and requires some srious car knowledge and above all else it requires time ,something a car thief lacks .

I haven't seen the schematics. But our car shouldn't be that hard to steal.
From what I remember hearing (from whoever looked at the schematics). The chip in the key simply disables the fuelpump. If someone found a way to get power to the fuel pump bypassing the loop that checks the chip. I could see it...
Shit, my friend worked as a repo guy. Just about anything can be stolen.

Dont worry about someone stealing your VIN and getting a key made. All dealerships now require a registration & picture id when ordering a replacement key that has a chip. I'm sure there are some cases of it still happening, but it's more the exception than the rule.
And Darrin just make sure you have good insurance and get gap insurance.

That's what insurance is for. Just make sure you don't skimp and tell you agent everything you have, then pay the premiums and you'll be able to sleep. Man, you know I got a lot in my car and I wouldn't die if it was stolen tomorrow. It isn't my dog and it can be replaced. Trust me the money is worth the piece of mind. Pay for the apporpriate amount of coverage for you needs.

Siggy, if that is the situation, stealing the car should be like stealing anyother. Just lookin in the Helm, giving a constant to the fuel pump shouldn't tap more than a minute once you find the wires. I would just rip off the fuel pump access in the trunk and give the pump constant.
