Ordered the C/T Supercharger

Well after a month of going back and forth and after much thinking I finally broke down and today ordered the Comptech Supercharger for my CL.

I went through Velocity Resources who's handled all my other CT orders & Jason told me that I could expect delivery in early July. He also told me about some rare problems that two other people have had in that their order was delayed for up to 6 months. Definitely not the norm he said so I’m still expecting the early July delivery.

Of course as Smitty reminded me the S/C is only the start and there's a laundry list of stuff that should/needs to be ordered as well. Here's where I stand:

CT S/C - Ordered

CT HBP - Ordered

CT Tranny Cooler - Ordered

UR 12v Pulley - Ordered

Mugen Combo (FanSwitch/Thermo/Rad cp) - Ordered

Gauge Pod - Ordered

Gauges - Not yet

51R Battery - Not yet

As far as the gauges go I’m looking at doing full sweep electrical for Boost and Fuel Pressure. I really should be doing a Trans Temp gauge but that may come somewhere down the line. I'm looking at a set of Autometer C2 Gauges like this one:

So that’s where I stand as of now. Its gonna be tough waiting 6-8 weeks for delivery but I have a feeling its gonna be worth it.

Thanks to power3dfx, Smitty, scalbert, ModAddict, Red Rider and everyone else for putting up with all the questions.

Gonna have it installed at a local place here on the Island. And I actually made a premature appointment that’s gonna have to be pushed back.

All three current UR Pulleys are coming off and the stock P/S pulley will go back on.

Anyone with questions about pricing & warranty can PM me.

Nice job old Chap!

Can't wait to hear what kind of numbers you get.

I was on the verge of getting one, but I think I'm going to get a beater car instead and mod the living crap out of it.

Congrats and welcome to the S/C club. I knew we would eventually wear you down. Resistance is futile.

You won't regret it... and you're going to have lots of fun with it. :buff:

... and I know what you're going through regarding the wait... I've already got a 13" Brembo kit and new 18" sticky tires ready for the install. Unforturnately, my new 18" wheels may not arrive for another 2 or 3 week or maybe longer...

Good News Chap! I run the autometer cobalt and C2 gagues in the acura and In my superchargered truck I use only the C2 (they work REALLY well and light up the whole cabin in a soothing blue.

and forget that chincy little integra battery! It's time to move it to the back!

Nice going Chap. One suggestion,...your boost gauge should go up to 15 psi rather then the 30 psi shown. What is the UR 12v pulley for? I agree with MtBikR,... move the battery to the back.

I have the regular UR Crank Pulley. If I were to get a SC, would I need the 12v version so I'm not underdriving the SC???

Thanks for the replies guys I appreciate it.

For everyone who’s still on the fence about getting the S/C I can relate because it really isn’t an easy decision. A lot of variables have to be weighed but I’m confident I made the right decision.

Jonsei you have PM.

Yeah I realize a 30psi is basically overkill considering the most boost I’d ever be running is 9psi or so. Those 0-15 psi gauges make it much easier to read as well. However there’s a limited # of models that have a 0-15 reading. I really like the C2 model but I’ve got plenty of time to rethink this one.

I don’t want to give up the gains from my UR crank pulley so instead this new one by UR enables you to keep a light weight pulley on while running the S/C instead of just going back to that heavy stock one.

Considering moving the battery to the trunk, something I got to think about.

darrin I remembered your experiences with VR weren’t good in the past and this was something I had on my mind while I was speaking to Jason from VR. I’ve ordered almost all my parts through them and never had a problem. After speaking with him and hearing what he had to say about the situation, and evening hearing him admit they had problems in the past, I feel I made a good decision. Time will tell.

Yeah you can’t run the regular UR Crank pulley as it will underdrive the S/C. One option is to go back to stock the other is to get the 12v which won’t underdrive the S/C.

Congrats Chap, i'm really happy for you, you're gonna love it !!

I'm already jealous that you're gonna run the HBP, our Cali 91 pisswater gas makes that impossible for now at least until i decide on the E-Manage

Good luck and keep asking questions !!

Congratulations Chaptorial,
You're going to love your new the Acura/Vette. I really hope that the delivery time will be early July if not sooner. I think you did well with going with VR as they are the largest mover of Comptech parts, so if there are any problems they certainly have the advantage. Even though there were some issues With production and restructuring at Comptech/VR hopefully all that is out of the way.
As for the auto, I had mine with almost 6000 miles of hard HBP miles on it before it was swapped for a bullet proof CL tranny. The stock tranny is still going strong in the unmodified(what a shame) CL. For good consistent track times the auto is great.

Chaptorial....welcome to the boosted club.

Well I’m not expecting a miracle so I know there’s always gonna be a threat of the tranny going. I’m doing all I can to prevent this from happening with getting the tranny cooler. I’ve got 10k miles on the car right now so I’ve got a way to go on the warranty & fortunately I’ve got good dealer support up here so I’m covered.

Now if I’m blowing trannys left and right my dealership already said its gonna be tough to continuously cover the work so in that case I’ll go with the VR tranny.

The HBP voids the original 2 year CT warranty on the blower itself. However my dealership knows that it ony raises the boost close to 1 psi so fortunately they’re still gonna work with me.

Yeah 93 is all over the Island. I’ve been using 93 for awhile now even though I don’t need to. There’s like a 5 cents difference from 91 to 93.

Make sure they SOLDER your ESM connections....

for now I recommend you keep typing in "Supercharger" in the search funtion and Read, Read, Read, you will be surprised at what you learn from now till the time you actually go to get it installed..

Congrats on your purchase., and I would not bother gettting an R51, i would relocate my battery to the trunk, get a 0-15 psi boost gauge and get Heavy duty clamps.

As you can see those weak stock clamps will not be able to keep the coolant lines on ...and NEW clamps do not come with the KIT... so go get yourself some 2 inch Heavy duty ones, so the install is done right.

Chap.. you should have let me know... we would have hooked you up. It's probably better off from VR anyway since you're in NY.. so you save a ton on tax (unless you have an address outside of NY to ship to)

Good luck with it

yeah they light up great, that is if you wire them up to light up..

I wired mine so that I can dim them with the dash lights...

You have your options of either using the green or red condom on the bulbs so you can make them light up the 2 differnt colors.. I chose the red..

The VR tranny is a beefed up 5sp auto from Velocity Resources. The one I have (stageIII) comes with hardened steal shafts, carbon graphite clutches, "torring" bearings which are a German made bearing - better then the Japanese pieces, +500-600RPM anti-balling stall converter with brazed fins and limited slip dif. It is roughly $4000, if I'm not mistaken they even have cores on hand for rebuilds but I'll have to check.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this unit responds to the additional 9lbs of boost at the track. As of yet I do not have any track times under this new pulley.

Are you sure that isn't supposed to be "Torrington bearings".

http://www.torrington.com/industries/automotive/

They are one of the premeir and largest manufacturer of various automotive bearings.

Yeah JR you guys over at CCC were on the top of a very short list when it came time to decide where i was gonna get the S/C from. That 8.5% is a real bitch though, like you stated.

Don't worry there's always more stuff to get. It never ends.

Thanks for the info Smitty. I would have rather gone for the C2 gauges but considering they only have 0-30psi gauge i'd rather have the more practical 0-15 reading. And oh yes, they're gonna be wired to light up.

I had phantom and switched them out for the Cobalt and the C2 guages. The lighting on the Cobalt and Cobalt2 seris is completely different and completely better then the phantom. The phantom looks very dimm and un-even in its lighting. Where as the Cobalts just straight up GLOW, especialy the C2 as they are white and the entire face glows with a bright and even Blue. The Cobalts are just as bright but less light since they have black backgrounds.

How important is adding an exhaust w/ the SC? I know it doesn't help much pre-SC...

Also, do you need to upgrade the spark plugs at all?

Do you guys recommend just using the stock crank pulley or getting the 12v UR crank. Anyone want my regular UR crank pulley? I love the thing!
