Optima Battery
Optima Battery
Hello all,
I have a 2003 Acura CL-S 6spd and my car has dies a couple times and sometimes is hard to crank. I got the battery tested and they told me it was shot as I figured. I was wondering what battery everyone suggested. I have a system in my car and I was looking at a Optima Red Top. I have the yellow top in my truck and it has been a good battery but I was reading on hear that some people are no longer impressed with Optima's performance. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions.
Thank You

Optima red top is still a great battery... I had to replace my battery when I bought my car a few weeks ago but a jump from a 3 year full replacement battery, 5 year prorate to a Optima is a $90 jump and I would have less CCA...
Sounds like you may have an alternator or connection problem as well. While the car is running, even with a bad battery, it shouldn't die.

Some people got thier panties in a ruffle because Optima changed thier warranty terms for the worse. Thats why I think they started getting a bad rap. I think they are still the best batteries you can buy for the $. I still have and use a 7 year old optima red right now. The last one I had lasted over 8 years. That's all the proof I have ever needed. They work for me.
If you have a system i would go with the Yellow top.
Like someone said before, even if your battery is bad your car should not stall. The alt with keep it going. You can start a car then take the battery out and drive a 1000 miles with no battery becasue the alt takes over and runs the cars electrics not the battery. You need to get your alt checked before you put in any new battery or it will kill the new battery.

Sorry, I used the wrong word. The car has never died while driving, but the battery has died in the driveway. A couple of times I have had to jump it because it was dead when I went to start it. I know it's not the alternator but the battery. I think I am going to go with a Exide Orbital. There is a company near me that sells them as "seconds" with a 1 year warranty for $40

I put a Optima Red in yesterday. I used the stock battery box, clamp and cover. There is a little room on the top and bottom of the battery as the Optima is smaller than stock. Should i be concerned about this? Just wondering if the battery will move under acceleration or braking. ( I used the height adaptor as directed.)
I run nothing but Red tops. The Red Top in my TL finally died this past fall. It was 10 years old and had 400k miles on it powering a stereo as well most of its life. I have one that is pushing almost 15 years in my parents s10 and i have one that is 6 years old in my Expedition.
I replaced a dead Energizer battery in my car with a Red Top from Optima.
If youre looking for a less expensive but just as powerful alternative check out Interstate batteries, just a relabeled Optima.

There are a few reasons that a company will change it's warranty
1. Save costs- a shorter warranty = less $$
2. they changed something in production and their internal data suggests that the product will have more returns under a longer warranty
the battery in my 1994 accord that I sold to my friend is 10+ years old and it's an interstate
