Which one do i get? Some questions about tranny
Hey guys,
I've been reading this for a while, and on monday im going to go purchase my CL-s my only question to you is:is THERE ANYWAY to know if the tranny on the one im buying was replaced? it has 136k and i want to know, plus do you guys recommend getting like those powertrain warranties for 100k (236k) for my CLS? its powertrain and its costing me 1500 with 0 deductible. the car costs 8k and the one with maybe 128k cost 9500 and one with 100k but no spoiler costs 10k what do you recommend 8k plus warranty? or ...

This may not directly answer your question, but I would not buy any car with that many miles.
An $8,000 car and a $1,500 powertrain warranty - I just don't like how that balances out.
My advice? Keep looking for a CLS with maybe 50k -60k miles.

well acuras and hondas will run for a really long time if you take good care of them. and that seems like a decent price for the year and model...the only problem is that its the notorious CL-S automatic transmission..so its up to you, but you should really try to look for one with a lot less miles and a 6 Speed

i would,
but the problem is that i cant afford it. i dont want an accord, i want the acura. But lets just say, 8 for 135k or 9.5k for 125k that was FULLY serviced (timing belt, etc and tranny was replaced at 65k)? those are the choices i have.

OK, here it is that one thats 8? the head unit is stuck in tape, but i will need a new one anyway, so 8 + headunit used is 8300, plus driving it from COLUMBUS to Chicago + 100 so basically im looking at 8400 dollars, considering i can install the stereo unit myself! what do you think? there is this one other acura for 9500 in chicago it has 128k, but it doesnt drive well, like it was beat up and stuff. i mean the 120k one i want but it has tan leather, i want black leather.

I love my CL-S and Acuras are awsome but honestly if you are in a budget do not buy a Cl. After I bought my 6speed CL-S back in 2004 my GF wanted one and she bought a 2001 SMR/Parchment int. with 92k miles. She had the car for almost six months and her tranny was replaced twice, the second time she had to pay out of pocket due to being out of warrenty. There were also little things here and there that she had to replace due to the high miles on the car (water pump, Rotors, Timing Belt etc.). It was a mess to say the least, not to mention the cost of ownership for six months was over $7k. She now owns a 2003 (trouble free) RSX and is happy with it.
This might not happen to you if you get the extended warrenty but just be careful and know what you are getting into before it is too late.

I bought mine 5 months ago with 54k miles now its got about 60k.
I DEFINATLEY wanted an extended warrenty since i was gettin the auto.
I run out of warrenty at 100k in 2008 (Im positive it will die before that)- I actually called them last week to get a further powertrain warreny cause im still under 60k miles.
Warrenty = $1500
Dead tranny = $ 4750
