OMG Radar detector w/ GPS!
OMG Radar detector w/ GPS!
Okay you all arn't going to belive this.
Uniden’s GPSRD Passes Road Test-SML rode with Uniden’s new Global Positioning Digital Navigator for over 4,000 miles during August and September. First, the radar warnings were true and well in advance of radar gun locations. This is the most important feature of any radar detector. Digital Navigator’s programming eliminated re-occurring false alerts encountered everyday on the same route from automatic door openers, burglar alarms, because the GPS remembered where they were. It accurately kept track of total miles traveled and remember where home was by its directional arrows. When we passed the Continental Dive or mountain passes where signs gave the elevation, the Uniden faithfully reported the correct altitude within a few feet. It gave us average speed driven from point to point and current longitude and latitude. It continually displayed our speed as we drove through the Nevada desert and even showed us our maximum speed during the 4,000 miles. Most importantly, this detector is quiet with very few false alerts. It will take some time to remember all the programming for this detector....it’s not just a beeping box anymore. For more information see www.uniden.com.

If it wasn't a uniden I would buy that junx in a heartbeat. why can't valentine or esort put this feature.

Very nice, you are correct, if only it wasn't a Uniden.
This is similar to my earlier post about defeating false alarms, I like my idea better but GPS will work, too. Too bad they want to throw in all that other GPS stuff which we don't really need and drives up the cost.
I think it will be awhile before other radar detector manufacturers pickup on this because:
1.Uniden probably has some sort of patent or something.
2.Most radar detector customers don't want this and/or not willing to pay for it.
3.Manufacturers are really sensitive to copying off the competition unless they come up with something quite different but ultimately similar which might take awhile.
Who knows, several were probably developing at the same time and Uniden beat them to market. If
GPS V1
came out, I would buy faster than you can say bin Laden. Any others include Passport Escort, I would not.

I think the GPS idea is a pretty good one, so I wouldn't blame other manufacturers for copying it... Heck, some of that other info it can spit out after a trip would be worth the extra money.
On the other hand, I travel a pretty short route daily, with only a handful of expected "bogeys", so silencing the known bogeys by GPS location isn't too big of a deal for me.
Hahahaha... Like being thrifty ever kept me from buying geek toys.
If Valentine makes it, I'd buy. How's that for blind loyalty.
there is actually a eurpean company that makes a radar detector with gps, that actaully has a stored memory of reported speed traps when the detector gets near one it emits beeps to alert you of how far away. it also has a usb port so you can go to the company website and down load any updates

This was one of my first impressions of the forum, and of Ken.

I can be wrong, it has been known to happen.

I was wrong, dead wrong about Valentine prior to getting one, I can admit that without shame.
