OK, some insider thoughts...

Ive been looking around at some models, and as of right now im eyeing the 03 CL-S Auto. My biggest concern is the trans (trying to find stick, but its so hard). Now ive been told from some inside automotive people that the trans problem are more troublesome with the 02 and 01's which that the 03, especially the later models, you dont need to worry about it too much. THis true? Also the sales guy himself has said (probaly as a sales pitch of course) that the auto trans issue shouldnt be an issue. I was in a rush so i didnt get the chance to ask for the paper work on the car, but its just over the 100km mark and that it has not been in accident. He also mentioned that Acura has extended the warranty to 160kilometres... ive seen threads here about it being extended to 100miles, but can anyone confirm that here in Canada, Toronto, that Acura has indeed extended it to 160km? I guess i can call Acura Monday and inquire about it, but i was wondering if any of you knew this.

Specs;
03 TypeS
102'000km
Blue
Auto
Alumi trim on the inside
Minor stone chips
Interior is top notch.

They are asking for 19k, but im able to talk him down to 17.

Thanks Guys,

hey man, Acura has extended the warranty for us as well. I got a letter from them awhile back, i'm good till June 07 or 160K. I don't know about the 01/02 vs 03 being any better, i think there all the same (Auto tranny wise). Don't worry about the tranny and just enjoy the car, they are a real pleasure to drive and own.

Hey, thanks for the reply...
Forgot that simple math does the body wonders.. 100mils is 160km... so im set. Sweet... now i just gotta make sure i past the credit check and get the guy to work on the price some more and im all set!

Now if i get this should i take it to Acura asap and have them take a look at it? Or should i just wait for and hope nothing happens? ORx2 that i wait till i get closer to the expiry time and then have them look at it? When replaced/fix, does the warranty extend further, or does it still expire at the 160km 2007 mark regardless?

Thanks again!

I would have Acura look at it for sure before you buy, I had them check mine throughly before I made the purchase. Keep in mind, (I think), the extended warranty only covers the tranny....someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks man,
As for taking it to Acura, absolutely. Ill try taking it to my mech first but he's a bit far so i may just take it to the local dealership. I was more or less thinking when if i do buy this, to have acura replace/fix the trans or should i wait until something happes first.

I'm sure Acura will replace the tranny if there is something wrong with it, i.e. not shifting properly. But I wouldn't sweat it too much. I still think despite the tranny issues the CL is a great used car buy, what can you really purchase at that price range with the options it comes with. Gotta love the fact that cars are worthless after only a few years....oh and one more thing....I'm pretty sure you can get a better deal than the 03 you're looking at, don't be scared to even look at the 01/02's. I found my 01 with 80K for 15K, I was also looking at 03's as well but couldn't justify the extra money for basically the same car. Unless of course you're looking for a 6spd, which is only available in 03.

Good point about the 03 vs earlier. The reason why im looking at this is because of the deal. Most 03's im looking at are about 20-25 still. Thats a bit much to be honest. So when i was able to talk this guy down under 18 with all fees and taxes in, i thought it was a great deal. No accidents i found on this one, along with it being one owner. I guess another reason to look at the older ones would be for insurance. I have yet to talk to my rep, state farm, which ive looked around on www.insurancehotline.com which i will be around the 2G mark. Does that sound about right? Clean record i have with no violations of any kind.... yet

DONT BUY AN ACURA CL! Read the thread on the transmission issues. I'd stay away all together if I were you. Mine went up at 68,000 miles. Replaced in 3 days. But others have gone through their 4th transmission. So far I'm up to 77,000 with no problems. I'm scared shitless though. The warranty covers it up to 100,000 miles, but I put so many miles on my car i'm scared. I bought the car in 11/05 with 62,000 miles, now I'm up to 77,000 already.

I never considered a automatic CL (back in 2002 when I was doing car research) especially when I saw that we have a forum dedicated to auto transmissions

If Acura didn't offer a 6speed version of the CL, I'd be driving something else now...

Its hard to say if i will miss MT or not. Right now i love zipping around in my teggy, but i do drive long distances for work and its through the worst traffic so my clutch foot does tend to get a little achy at times. BUT i do love the feeling of pumping it as i clutch through the gears! :p

the 03's arent having as much problems as the earlier models. I own an 03 CL-S automatic and it seems to be fine at the moment I'm plannin on keeping it until it dies because I'm gettin a s/c over fall... I say dont worry unless you've already had problems. If you had a tranny failure i'm sure it will happen again then dump it.
