ok guys need your input PLEASE

january 13th i dropped my car off the shop to get it fixed not even 30 yards later after my sister picks me up from the shop she gets into an accident the accident was bad but not bad. the best way to describe it is like this. she hit a blue 92-94 silverado in the rear driver side pannel where the the backseat is located and she was driving a 00 accord coupe and she was damaged in the front driver side corner. the impact happen no more than 1-2 mph and she busted her headlight bent the hood bent the fender and scratched up the bumper but this is all in the front corner of the car and its not bad at all but just enough where everything the hood fender and headlight has to be replaced.

well after exchanging info and after the police left i told the guy to get an estimate and let me know and maybe if the price is in reason we could take care of this without the insurance knowing(cash) so he agrees not to contact the insurance company until he finds out how much it costs.

well that same day i went to this expensive body shop to get an estimate on my sisters car. repaint whole front end and replace bumper and fender and headlight came out to be just over 2 grand. that is what i expect. i have no intentions to taking it there just wanted to get a good idea what it would be like. after some research i could actually purchase the parts myself and go get it painted for about 1 grand, which is a lot cheaper then the body shop!

now today feb 10 the guy calls me and says that he just got an estimate and it came out to be $2200!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he said he got one estimate from a cheap body shop and it came out to be 2200 and his insurance agent quoted him 2600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

remember this is only the rear quarter panel the cab was not damaged nor was his door was damaged. its one panel 3 foot by 2 feet!!!!!!!

i had a feeling that it was going to be 300 worth or parts and about another 300 for paint and labor

he gives me this crap about they have to remove stuff and reweld stuff and the labor is going to be expensive he gave me this 13 hours worth of labor and he said parts was about 300 which i assumed to be. but lets think about this. 2200-300=1900 and 1900/13hours= per 146.15 labor hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as soon as he gave me that quote i told him to just go ahead and make the claim to our insurance company. now im pretty sure this guy is making this stuff up or he did some more damage to his truck so i ask yall this:

how can i convince the insurance company to investigate a possible insurance fraud? i mean he is going to give them his estimate and they will look at my sisters accord and his truck but will the insurance company honor his estimate?

if my sisters car has no frame damage is it possible for his truck to suffer any frame damage?????

this is pissing me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen people advocate insurance fraud even here. I do not condone it. Just let the ins. company take care of it. If he is required to see insurance estimator, the scam is over. Maybe the reason I'm against scamming is because I haven't figured how to make it work for me. Good luck, and take care of sis.

The guy did your sister a favor by offering her an opportunity of not going through the insurance company. Usually people are as*holes and want to go through insurance company even if its a small scratch. So instead of being thankfull you want to acuse him of insurance fraud? He should have gone through your insurance in the first place.

hey im just stating the FACTS. i think it is safe that he attempted to scam my us. i have no problem with him going to the insurance company. usually i would just say let the insurance take care of it but his damage was minimal that we would easily cut him a check for 1000 dollars even though the damage is no where near a grand!
i have been in a few fender benders and wrecks to KNOW how much damage is actually incurred his car and im pretty sure he has no frame damage and hes telling me 13 hours of labor and welding and rewelding, parts are 300 and labor is 1900????????

hey you hit someone you pay the price, i totatly understand that if i hit someone no matter how minimal and if they wanted to report it to the insurance that is fine with me but since the damage appear to big minor i felt we could have take care of this without the insurance. he agreed to it and told me he will get me an estimate in 2 days! its close to a month now and he gives me bull shit like 1900 of labor for welding and rewelding who knows what!!!!

I apologize for not being clear enough. I was accusing the pickup driver of scamming, not you.

My father's Maxima got vandalized, Nissan's body shop wanted 1200, and some local no name shop did it for 520.

If somebody hits my car I would only take it to Acura body shop..... so quotes can varry.

you are right he took it to his insurance agent and they quoted 2600 but a local body shop quoted him 2200.

let me give you some examples

me 98 chevy suburban vs 96 jeek cheroke sp? he rear ends me and my bumper is smashed and i have some frame work total cost came out to 1500. 400 for the bumper and 1100 for the labor and frame work the cheroke was wrecked, front end looked like a crushed can!

my cl-s smashed my front end need new hood and bumper parts cost 1000 and paint and labor 1000=2000

my sisters car needs a new hood, fender and headlamp and repaint whole front 2100 dollars!

the accident was at most 2 mph! she stopped and go and slammed on the break just bumping into his beat up 92-94 silverado with more damage to my sisters car then his. my sisters car requires no body work and his truck requires some 13 labor hours of welding and rewelding whatever that is suppose to mean????

dude unless you slap a bunch of bondo over the dent and paint over it they will have to order the body panel then cut the dented body panel out, then weld the new body panel in, then grind it down smooth, then apply primer, then sand some more and then they can finally paint. Thats a shit load of work!

Granted the guy probably pointed out some other dents and dings that were not the fault of your sister to get the estimate higher but all that labor adds up quick!!
