Oil Leak help

SO i noticed some spots under the CL the other day in my usual parking spot. I thought nothing of it cause my car shouldnt be leaking oil. So i drove out again for a quick drive and noticed another spot of oil so i investigate. Its reddish and im thinking its someones tranny fluid. Then i'm thinking that this is my assigned spot and no one should be parking there so i look under the car and its pretty messy down there by the oil filter. My first htought was the filters loose but i couldnt hand tighten it so its gotta be on tight. Then i think maybe its that crush washer where the oil drain is, but that bold and area is clean. i get under again and notice that the oil filter and the surrounding area is pretty dirty with the oil spraying and i'm also low about 3 quarts. Would there be a spot above the passenger side motor area that would spring an oil leak? Havent had a chance to take it to a shop or actually get under it yet so any advice for peace of mind is appreciated.

Thanks

On a 6mt that's likely the rear mail seal leaking. There's a TSB on it. If you have warranty it should be covered. If not, the tranny needs to come out & at that point you should put a new clutch in as well.

Get some oil in the engine quick. If you are truly 3 quarts low, that's bad news for your engine.

Hell yeh. That's a lot. When did you get your oil changed last? Maybe they did not put the oil filter in properly. It could be tight if they crossed the threads, but not on well enough to prevent the leak. I would get the oil changed, or at least add oil if you don't have the time. Then put a piece of clean card board under the car for a short time. It might help you find out exactly where the leak is.

Yea, thats how i found out it was 3 qts low. i poured one qt in , then another and then finally another

This is the same car that had the mysterious coolant leak (loose drain bolt) that drained all my coolant while i was driving. I thought i would of had a BHG like my previous Legend

I go to the shop today and the mechanic says, you got a hole in your oil filter

That wouldn't occur on the passenger side of the motor though.

That's a first.

What type of filter was it?

Never had a leak on this car, but had my share of oil leaks & others cars I've had oil leaking from parts that are not even close to where the oil is.

It was an STP blue (cheapie) filter. It was about a 1 mm dent where the hole was. I overlooked it after wiping the filter down the first time cause i woulda never thought of a hole in the filter. I figgured it had to be dripping onto the filter
