Oil Change Question

Hey guys,

I have a question regarding oil changes. I've gotten mine done every 3,000 miles at the Acura dealership. Yeah yeah, I know I should do it myself but I live in Boston and would have to do it on the street. Plus I don't have any ramps or anything else that is needed. And the dealership is right down the street. I'm at 43,000 miles right now, and need to get another one. The last one was done at 40,000 miles.

Do you think it would be ok if I just wait until the 45,000 mile service for the next change? I would need to add oil inbetween (obviously), we use 5w-20, correct? I figure I can just go down to the dealership and buy some.

Will there be any damage or concerns if I just wait another 2,000 miles? It'll be 5,000 miles inbetween changes.

Any answers would be appreciated.

5k on dino oil is no big deal, just make sure you are topped off.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Why? Does your motor burn/consume oil?

I was wondering the same thing, as to why you needed to add oil. I go 5k to 6k on every oil change and never notice a difference in color of levels of fluid.

I just figured if I let it go that long, it'd get low. If that isn't the case, even better!

Try using an Oil Boy ... got mine from Amazon.com ... about $60 I think. You don't have to get dirty doing the oil change. Just put a baggie over the filter when you pull it and you'll be done in no time. Better than going too long between changes.

It should be fine, just double check it, maybe when you get to 150k miles it might burn some oil.

Dumb question, but I'm asking: Have you ever checked your oil before? I'm getting the feeling the answer is no.

If not, no need to start now. Just change the oil at 45K and fuhgeddaboudit!

You'll be fine to wait. I use syn & change every 5K miles. The manual does state 7500 mile changes anyway.

You should be fine. Whenever I take mine in they say that I can get more out of it. Just check and top off if you need too.
Thanks for the reminder, I'm about 200 over. One more thing to do tonight.

Yeah I've checked it, but never when there was 5000 miles between changes, so I wasn't sure. Call me a :noob: if you must.

My old car (Chevy Beretta GT) used to leak a little oil so I had to fill it up every once in awhile.

Doesn't the manual say to get the oil changed every 7500 miles anyway??

I thought the 3000 mile mark was the jiffy lube equivalent of Hallmark and Valentine's Day.

I believe my manual says every 3750 for "normal" conditions, and 3000 for "severe" conditions. I'll have to check it tonight.
