B-pipe has arrived

The Comptech B-Pipe was waiting on my doorstep when I got home last night. Impressive quality welds/bends. Anyway, hope to install it Saturday morning. I doubt I'll notice gains with the butt-dyno but I hope it drops me a tenth in the quarter this spring. We'll see. Anything I should know before install? It looks like a pretty easy bolt-on.

Install is straight forward, remove old, install new. I thought I heard, that the b-pipe can yield almost 8 whp in a boosted setup. Could be wrong though.

I got the b-pipe installed before the S/C was installed. I immediately noticed how much more drive-able the car felt after the b-pipe was installed; engine rev'd smoother and quicker. I would expect you to feel a definite improvement with the S/C. You should also notice a different exhaust sound too. And yes, you can expect about 3-4 for N/A applications and about 5-8 for F/I.

Congrats and enjoy...

Would I notice these improvements if I installed this on my stock CLS?

I'm not sure... I already had CT i/h/e when I installed the b-pipe on my NA CLS at the time.

... the stock exhaust is not very restrictive, unless you have forced induction.

Does the B-Pipe make the car sound more like a G35, a ricey civic, or a Mustang GT?

Definitely not ricey nor a stang GT. Has a unique sound of it's own that is much more aggressive sounding than stock, but not too loud.

I'm installing it Saturday morning in my friend's garage. I'll let you know the change in sound. I have Thermal exhausts currently on the car...so it already sounds a little bit throaty.

Don't forget to use some solvent to wipe it down before you start it up. I used Brake Clean to remove residue.

Keep an eye on the boost. I'm curious if there's any affect.

Is this so the stainless doesn't discolor?

Affirmative. Fingerprints, grime, bugs, plastic, a piece of plastic ...all will tend to become one with the pipe once you start the vehicle and it heats up....although it seems a bit futile when one considers that it will just get dirty again when you actually drive on any sort of pavement including, but not limited to asphalt, gravel, concrete, dirt, grass, etc. and so forth and so on.

Oh and also, stainless steel components are sometimes coated with an oil type residue before they are shipped which, when burned, leaves a dreadful stench.

Nope. The stock mufflers flow pretty damn well IMO. I noticed ZERO gain in performance from just the Comptech mufflers. The Comptech B-pipe + stock mufflers would probably net you about 5whp.

most of teh loss that i could see in the Tl exhaust is the resonators and teh 3 foot ovaled pipe right before the Y

B-pipe went on this morning. Took almost 2 hours because one of the three bolts connecting the center pipe to the cat was stripped while removing it. I had to go to an Acura dealer to get a new one. $13 for a damn bolt. Can you believe that? Anyway, the sound is awesome. My friend drove it while I stood outside and it sounds very aggressive. It drones a little in the low rpm's, but disappears soon after. The Thermal exhausts might be adding to that droning. As far as additional pulling power, can't feel it. We'll just have to wait for the track I guess.

Congrats on the addition

Every little bit helps. I'll be interested to see if it brings your quarter down any.

Congrats...

As for the droning... it's probably from the b-pipe cause I noticed that same thing after installing it. You'll also notice the droning going up hills.

After driving it around for a while, you should notice the improved drivability; smoother and quicker reving.

It is a bit louder than before. Much deeper tone overall. I kinda like it but my wife isn't really a fan.

The car does seem to rev a little easier. Could just be wishful thinking though.

Droning is probably from the thermals, I remember how they sounded on my car, and I can only imagine what it would be like with the B pipe. I bet is sounds really deep.

If you had the CT exhaust, you could install the quiet tips which would only cause a little power loss above 5500 RPM.

As for the reving a little easier, that's not your imagination. I noticed the same thing after installing it. I would say though, smooth reving was the most noticeable thing after the change in sound.

Damn! Thats highway robbery. I think when I called around to get some bolts for the S2000 (same exact bolts) ... some of the dealers quoted be like $10-15 a bolt... If you buy the bolts online its like $8 each ... And even that is too expensive! Of course, if you're desperate and you need it that day, then online isn't a good option.

You could have also tried Home Depot / Lowes for the bolts, not the exact same thing as the ones for the exhaust, but they'd fit and it'd be a hell of a lot cheaper

I just wanted to make sure I got the right bolts so they wouldn't back out over time.

And I personally think Lowes > Home Depot for most DIY supplies. Lumber is straighter, better choice of lighting fixtures, higher end toilets...

Home Depot is our #1 client, so I'm biased. Home Depot Lowes

Don't get me wrong. I remodeled my entire kitchen myself and most of the supplies came from HD. I'm now on to the 2nd bathroom and, again, most of the supplies are coming from HD. BTW, got any 10% discount coupons? I use 'em all the time and I've saved tons by using them.
