Oil Analysis Result Spreadsheet available for download

Hello everyone,

This is Bill (aka Evilbill) from the maxima.org forums. About 2 years ago, a few other Maxima members and I endeavored to start performing oil analyses on our cars to prove/disprove the infamous "Jiffy Lube - Every 3,000 miles" marketing line.

Chris (member eCo) started this thread yesterday on the TL forums:

http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...threadid=43989

I just wanted to post a link to the thread where you can download these results for yourself and have a look-see:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=100060

My interest in the Honda portion of the spreadsheet began with my analyses of oil and ATF in my dad's 99TL, which I maintain. As eCo alludes to in the threadlink here above, V6 Hondas tend to exact a lot of metal wear with longer drain intervals, regardless of oil, filter, or driving conditions.

On the 99TL, I am going to attempt to prove a theory after having 3 analyses performed on it over the last 18 months or so as well as looking at the other V6 Honda results in the spreadsheet.

The theory revolves around using an oversized oil filter and changing it more often to help minimize wear and oil oxidation, thus extending the useful life of an oil to one full year using Amsoil synthetic. In order to do this, I had to find an oversized cross-reference filter for this application that didn't cost an arm and a leg as the Amsoil and Mobil 1 oil filters do. So, I'm going to change the filter at the 4 month and 8 month mark with the STP S3950 (the S3985 failed to properly fit unfortunately) during the next year and take an analysis to see if my theory is full of B.S. or actually has some validity. I think it will help, but am not sure how effective it will be.

I would like to thank members Bluto and SilverBulletCLS eCo and Acura TL member eCo Bluto for submitting their analyses to me recently. Hopefully, others here will do the same and you are encouraged to do so.

Bill you do a great job doing this and I am glad to help.

BTW, I am SilverBullet on ACURA-CL.COM and TL.com I am SilverBulletCLS. There is another SILVERBULLETCLS here on this site too. hehehhe.

I will let you know hopefully late Saturday on the results for that filter. Thanks.

next week my cl-s will reach the 33k mark with 10k on Amsoil + Amsoil filter. I have the analysis kit and will post the 5w30 results when I get them. This time I'm changing to the series 2000 0w30 for comparison.

When you get those results, feel free to e-mail them to me or just let me know when it is available. If you look at the latest spreadsheet in the "Foreign Vehicles" worksheet, you'll see the results on Amsoil with one Amsoil SDF20 filter over about 8,600 miles......filtration (insolubles) were at the limits.

May I also suggest another filter with a top bypass valve such as the STP 3950 next time and changing the filter at around 5k. I need more experiementers to help prove or disprove my theory.

fender4's results have been integrated in the latest spreadsheet revision, dated 09/04/02, along with about 15 or so more analysis results. Thanks to him for sharing his results.

I have broken out the Hondas into 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder worksheet pages and am doing what I can to add more Honda vehicles to the mix in the near future.

Thanks for taking the time on this spread sheet. We get into some great debates on oil, I find I'm still learning more during each debate. There is still only one oil Co. that helps promote extended drain interval past the manu. warranty. Wonder why this is??? Again thanks for the great job of tracking the various test results.
