Offical HP ratings/info on the 03 Accords
Good news and bad news guys
bad news: dad just came home(he works for Honda of America) with info/numbers on the 03 Accord it stacks up like this the little 4 popper is turning something like 170-180 hp then they'll offer a Type R model Accord which will have a 2.4 Liter motor turning 200 HP then the LISTEN TO THIS(here's the bad news) they're gonna take our motor 3.2 and use it in the new accords producing 240 HP.
now the good news: there's light at the end of the tunnel as far as the 3.5 or bigger motor for TL/CL. I guess some press questioned why they didn't put the 3.5 in the new Gen. Accord(03 style) they said they gotta build one for the CL/TL first then they'll work on "adapting" it to the Accord.
now the good news about this I think since Accords are so common and main stream i think they'll be more performance parts for our motors that will interchange.
the bad part is you don't have the edge like you did on the old
v-6 Accords.
Now about pictures of the 03 Accord(I wasn't even suppose to hear about this yet plus dad wasn't suppose to bring this home) Personally I don't like the way it looks. best way to decribe the rear end on it is the taillight are "thinner" and rap around the back curve it.
the front end kinda of reminds me of a RSX.
Personally I don't like it (but maybe in a month or 2)or once i see it with a body kit i might like it. for now you can chalk up a hopeful future owner of a CL-S:P

Why 240HP, Just plug our CLS engine wth 5-AT and 6-MT. presto! why de-tune. I guess it would be underrated.
After all it would have to crash Alti and Maxi too...

280 will be the max. Probably closer to 270. And I doubt the 300 pounds of torque. Maybe closer to 285 pounds.
We'll see.

that would look really dumb if they did...i'm guessing cl-p will get the 3.2L 260hp that the type-s's have and bump up in hp for type s...so that accord would maintain the current 25ish hp difference with cl/tl

I got my new Motor Trend today, which had drawings of what the new Accords may look like, and also info on the engines. They said (and I'm not saying they know everything for a certainty) that the 4 banger will be a 2.4L from the CRV, which may get a power boost to more than the ~160 the CRV comes with. But the 3.0L with ~200hp will be carried over.

that's the pic i saw is the one above.
man if that new generation CL type S out of the factory with a 3.5 300 HP that thing will be OFF THE HOOK I bet with a 6-speed in that you could burn the tires between 1st and 2nd without trying.(like dumping the clutch) I'm expecting at least 280 HP out of the new Generation CL type S (cause the new Accord v-6 will have 240 Ponies, usually if you wanna market a "next step up car" usually you want atleast 25-30 hp)
you add maybe a set of headers and you'll be killing Maxima 5-speeds(with a Automatic). I know for sure even if I had the money for a new CL(which i don't ) and I could wait 2-3 years I would for the new motor. I know all you guys are ticked that got the new 6 speed thinking you'd have a leg up on all the Automatic guys now the Automatic guys will get the new gen car with the new motor (it will probably about balance out for the amount of power lost in a Automatic)
now only thing is I gotta make my car last about 2-4 years(2 reasons)(#1 i will have WELL OVER 200 grand on the ticker(probably closer to 250 or 300 grand on it and #2 If you know about the wonderful insurance companies . Since I'm 20(and I bet y'all know this) until i either get married or turn 25 that's one strike against me another strike is I'm a male so I'm not a bad driver on "high risk" just I'll play there games till I get married or turn 25 but the day that happens I'm going to the Acura dealer:P
danny you said about the CR-V motor:the 4 banger your talking bout. I forgot to tell you guys about this . Honda of Japan and Honda of America got into a little fight when they redesigned the CR-V cause Honda of Japan wanted to put a 02 Accord motor in and Honda of America wanted to put a 03 Accord motor in it well Honda of america won the battle . I know your thinking why did they put a 03 Motor in a 02 car. well my sister has a 01 CR-V(which has the civic motor in it) and it has less balls than a fixed cat ). so I hate to say it but the CR-Vs were the test SUVs for this motor. everyone I've talked to said they have enough juice for the SUV so must be a good motor.

OK let me tell you what engines Europe will get. The Accrod will be available there in September of this year by the way.
2 liter = 120 HP
2 liter iVtec coming from the Civic Type R (in Europe)= 200HP (this is our RSX's engine basically)
2.4 liter = 160HP (dont know if that is a 4 cylinder or not)
2.4 liter = 250HP for the TYPE R Accord (same engine as above only hot rodded)
So I dont doubt we will see 240 HP here. They have to be able to have an answer for the Altima folks. Plus I am sure the new Taurus will not stay with the current 200HP.

the only thing I don't understand is that how could ya say the Cl would be off teh hook with 20 more HP? I agree that 280 or 300 sounds sweet but if you think about it the car still won't be that fast. 20 Crank HP is like a cold air intake and mufflers. That will barely change the speed of the CL. I don't know just my .02
They need to lighten the car and get the power to the ground better instead of upping HP so much. My car has crazy wheelspin as it is.

Are you sure your dad works for HAM???
I'm not really sure about what you guys are saying.. I would say on a reliability scale of 1 to 10, I'm about a 10. The engine is still 3.0L and only has 230hp. The rear is very similar to the pic shown, but not quite so flashy and a hint more rounded at the top. The front is kinda like the front that's drawn, but there are no fog lights for the 4dr. Kinda plain jane if you ask me. Anyway, the interior is BY FAR more upscale than the current Acura models.

i seriously doubt a 240hp accord...............honda has always and will be conservative with the accord...........so until you see toyota dump 240 in a camry.....dont expect it in an accord

I doubt they would do something like make the Accord stronger than a TL-P/CL-P.
I agree with whomever said:
Accord V6: 240hp (current CL-P/TL-P 3.2 with better intake/exhaust)
TL/CL Premium: 260hp (our TypeS 3.2)
TL/CL TypeS: 3.5L 300hp
RL/MDX: 3.8L V6
NSX: still a V6 but IT SO DESERVES A V8.
