OEM Mudguards

I bought a '03 CL-S in April. The car came with the package that incuded mud guards. I noticed this week when washing, that a lot of dirt and water seemed to be trapped around the rear guards. What has been peoples' experience? Do they do more harm than good? I like the way they look, but I don't want to mess up the paint underneath, or have a breeding ground for rust.

The paint underneath is probably already scratched. What some people did was remove the mudguards, clean and wax the body, then re-install the mudguards with felt stuck on the inside as to not scratch the car. It may be too late for you, but you never know.

did the felt stay in place well? and if so, where do you get this so called "felt"?

I wouldn't use felt, anything that holds water is a rust magnet. You don't want to draw water behind the mudflap. I haven't looked at mine, maybe trimming down the rubber would help minimize the covered areas.

Plastic on painted plastic won't rust...

I recommend what Junior said but you can use that 3M clear tape too... Using a small strip underneath will not hurt anything and you won't see it... You can find it at any hardware story. Great stuff..

Well, this is a problem for everyone CL/TL. #1 you can leave them on and the dirt will scratch ur paint or #2 you can take them off.

3M makes clear automotive film, specifically made to resist paint cracking and chipping. i think it's called stone guard or something like that

But i made my own custom mudguards...take a look

As long as it doesn’t RUST I could care less what it looks like under there.
I never plan to take them off the car.

FYI… I had the Factory OEM flaps on my Legend Coupe for 8-Years and 110,000-Miles and never had a problem.
But the paint was better on that car.
