ODBII Question for the CL?!

I wanted to know if anyone had a good/cheap/reasonably priced ODBII scantool/cable and software that you recommend. I want to use something that can interface with my laptop and that i can connect through usb. Also i just want simple basic options with the software to tell me what the codes mean that the ecu maybe throwing and to monitor simple things. Thanks

It hasn't popped up again but it's happened enough that buying a code reader would make sense. It would also help me ask better questions here on the forum if I knew what was specifically happening to my car.
