Obx Question For All

i am arguing with my cousin. i want to know something. I bought OBX RACING headers for my car. when i looked at them. they say it adds 25+ horsepower and torque for acura cl type S. I am wondering if that is on a stock motor with no mods. or it is with any other mods. and if i get more mods, will the horsepower go up more from that mod?????????

i wanna know. because he is tellin me that it gives me 25 + with a lot of mods and an exhaust.
let me know fellas.

Headers will add ~25 peak hp above about 6000 rpm, it does little below that. Intake is a good mod but don't waste your money on exhuast if you are going for performance, it does very little but make noise on a N/A car.

yup headers and intake are good mods for our cars... not too expensive but it does have reasonable HP gain

Intake YES, exhaust NO. An exhaust system adds very little power, mostly just sounds like it's faster. Not a good mod/$ IMO...

i dont know too much about the acura CL type S... but i do know you acctually will gain 30 whp with the only mod being headers... 25 hp gain is average for new peak hp. and yes as you add mods some of the gain you get from them is really the headers contirbuting to that... until you reach the end of the mod spectrum should you be considering exhaust for any sort of hp increase...but please dont take my word for it ...i kept my CL Bone Stock

Umm, just so this guy understands and so he can explain to the people that tell him he needs exhaust...

The actual REASON you don't really need an exhaust for this car is because the Type S factory exhaust sys. is already a high flow system. You really can't do much better unless you just want sound or looks.

Had to get a visual......

Here is the honda comptech dyno graph for the 01CLS, strictly headers (and mufflers according to link), wheel horsepower of course.

http://www.comptechusa.com/store/med...000CLSplot.pdf (Adobe)

They claim a 32whp increase from headers (and mufflers) alone at 6600rpm.

I'm not totally familiar with tractive LB, but if the high rpm percentage is true in the bottom graph, then headers should at least even out the torque dip near redline. I suspect the OBX product would be similar, if not identical, in results. If you look at people on this forum with 2nd gen regular CL, they have seen more muscle to the wheels with mods like cat-back exhaust than those with the S. This is because the regular CL flow is fairly restrictive compared to the nice CLS setup like Chris stated. Unless you need to extract the last couple hp out at right at the top, you don't need a 5 inch exhaust or anything crazy. Headers are more beneficial and a better value. Since the link stated mufflers also, you could probably get 2 high flow mufflers for fairly cheap (not from comptech though). At least that way you keep the $$$ pretty low, and could use the mufflers if/when you decided to get cat-back or whatever. Or if you just wanted to get tips.....just throwing ideas into the wind, but yes intake, headers, and exhaust are 3 cheap mods that can contribute to performance.
