OBX headers seemed to have HELPED!! :) :)

last night i met my freind who ive spoken about here (he has the stock 1998 GTP that does 14.5@92). he needed an oil change and i needed to get my catylitic convertor heat sheild tightend as it was rattling so we went up to my other freinds work (hes a saturn mechanic) and we had him take care of us, anyhow after we left, it was like 50 degrees out or less and we got on the expressway heading back toward our respective homes but we had about 10 miles before we had to seperate and go our own ways, as i live downtown on the lakefront and hes a suburban boy. anyhow, we had 2 way radios and i told him to slow down and lets find a stop light where we can run at. now the last time we were at the track, i was getting 14.8 to his 14.5 and he ALWAYS got the big jump right off the get-go...damn that GTP torque!! so we find a stoplight and the coast was clear so on green we both slammed it and we had about an 1/8th mile or so before we had to merge onto the expressway. he still got a jump on me, about a half of a car, and then my tires broke loose a bit going into 2nd gear and then i just pulled hard on him....by the time we had to merge i was about a quarter of a car length in front of him. needless to say, he was shocked, he was really impressed that i could break the tires loose going into 2nd gear...and it wasnt just a little chirp either, it was about a second or 2 of wheel spin!! ive got stock tires but they arent NEAR being bald or anything. and this happens basically everytime i slam it from a stop, going into 2nd gear i get wheelspin or chirping. this is especially true if the car is ice cold, i.e. my morning drive to work.

this little rondezvous makes me very excited for november 2nd when we go back to the track....i am seriously hoping to see about a 14.4-14.5 and judging by how much easier it was to pull on my buddies GTP which ive never beaten in a legit race, i think a 14.4-14.5 is possible.... we will have to wait and see!!

an additional note to this topic, i cant stress enough how much the COLD DRY weather conditions helps this car, even last week before i got the headers on, the CL-S really benefits from colder temps....maybe more so than alot of other cars, it just LOVES that cold air.

i had Injen CAI but the whole hydo-lock thing made me nervous so i sold it....i would consider the comptech ICEBOX but not till next year, im flat broke for car mods till well after the holidays...by the way, dont do CAI first, its a dissapointment..it sounds cool but the gains are so small they are practically insignificant...go with the headers first and you will FEEL the gains ALOT!! well worth it.

a $90 pulley will have him running high 13's with no problems to the car whatsoever. Watch out for those GTP's.

oh i know!, and so does he, hes trying to put some cash together so he can get the pulley before we go to the track!! hehehe, if he doesnt get the pulley before then, this could be my only chance ever to beat him!! i know all about the GTP's....there are quite a few 13 second, 12 second GTPs in the wisconsin/illinois area

I ran a guy with that $90 pulley, that runs 14.4 at 99 mph, we were dead even and I am stock basically. With headers he would have been behind me. 10 times all races same results.

im' also yet to run against a gtp i'd really like to. and jim dont you love spinning 2nd gear, i've gotten my car to leave 2nd gear spin marks twice and its been chirping third a lot lately, i think my car's feeling saucy from the 55 degree temps.

Nice kill! I know what you mean I just had my headers installed yesterday and boy do I love them! Once the car gets into VTEC it flys to the redline. One question does your car make a low rumble noise with the headers? I didn't have this noise before the headers.

have you ever had somebody else drive your car while you follow behind in theirs...i love it, i made my friend punch it while i was behind it and it sounds a lot like a new m3, and just looks sick, but yeah that 2k resonance is sweet

It is starting to disapper .... I guess the resonance sound has to do with the flexible mash... once broken-in, maybe no more added resonance noise...it used to happen at 2700 rpm
