OBX Header Problems

It's been a while since I've been active here but I thought I'd throw out an OBX nightmare.
Bought the headers a few months ago and had them put on by an ex-Acura tech I know at Honda. A few weeks later I noticed a loud ticking noise but up to that point, no resonance or any problem at all, fitment could have been alot better though.
After bringing it back my tech noticed the rear header gasket had blown through on the passenger side of the flange.
So, I ordered a set of stock gaskets from Acura and went back to have them changed and the leak was worse upon start-up but improved to tolerable after the car was warmed a few minutes.
The tech took them apart to examine the flange and noticed the flange that bolts to the block was warped, even some on the front header but not nearly as bad.
OBX said they would replace it, but I have to send it to them first, which sucks.
The fit and finish of these is also poor and almost considered not installing them after inspecting them, wish I would have.
I said fuck it and bought the Comptech's through a friend.
I will say the OBX's gave nice power as I pulled 20 hp more on the dyno with them consistently but the Comptech's will definitely deliver more power, not by much but noticable.
We'll see this weekend but I want to thank Nashua for helping me with the Stone's as I almost bought them.
The resonance people are hearing could be a very slight exaust leak, I would have it checked by a knowledable mechanic.
You get what you pay for!

We'll see this weekend but I have a few friends who have made the switch and have seen 4-6hp gains over the OBX.
The ports are smaller than the Comptech's and stock for that matter, and the finish on the inside is rough and jagged were the welds are.
OBX's are great for the money if you don't have any problems with them but ultimitely if put head to head on the same car, Comptech's win every time, even though the margin may be small.

Obx's are crap if they give you problems from day 1... if they've been working out, you got lucky...

since CT's redesign of their origianal CL/TL headers.. no problems whatsoever... or else they're very rare.

Glad i bought comptech.

I totally agree, I can't believe I put them on my $30,000 car to begin with. After seeing the Comptech's before an install I was shocked at the differences in overall build and finish, no comparison.
How can they sell these so cheap? Now I know why.
If you're in the market for headers, wait and buy the Comptech's.
Customer support is first class, which is priceless.

While I believe that the CTs are better, I haven't had issues YET with my OBXs cept the resonance. We'll see where they are in the next year.

Thanks Nashua and I hope that those who bought the OBX continue problem free but I had a bad experience.

Ah... Unless the installer used a sledge hammer to force the headers on the block studs... and wrapped the headers' flange.. How does 1/2" thick steel wrap byitself?

just wish people would realize this concept applies to just about everything, such as radar detectors and tires

Sorry, but Comptech Warranty Replacement is the same. You have to send in the defective part first.

For the price, the Comptech's competition is a real deal!

Not exactly true. When I had the first gen Comptech headers with the defective J-pipe that caused resonance problem. Comptech allowed me to have a new one sent to me first, however, I did have to give them a credit card number. They charged for the price of the J-pipe, then when I sent back the old one, they refunded the money right back soon after.

Sonor Kid: Just curious, did you use the OBX gaskets or reuse the OEM ones?

No doubt the Comptechs are better, but are they worth $1,249?

Glad to hear that CT is working out for you. So do you actually have the dynos showing the gains from CT over OBX?

I don't personally have them, as they weren't mine.
But I'll post the results of my Comptech versus OBX dyno from my car and if there is no difference, I'll eat my words.
