OBX and CT

Just out of curiousity for those who bought the OBX header, if the price of the CTs were only $100 or even $200 more than what the OBX headers are going for assuming that it is $340, would you still purchase the OBX or would you spend the extra cash for the Comptechs? I'm asking this because I'm curious if people who opted for OBX if their main decision buying factor was price? Also, are there any fears you have about the OBX such as quality? I mean what's the worse that can happen if there is a leak or one of the welds break off? This is a non-mechanical piece so it would just be hp loss right?

Of course it was - they're one third the price. Now you're changing that and making the Comptech's only $100 more, so I'm sure people will change their minds.

exactly.. people always prefer brand names over none.. but the price has to be justified too..

I agree, if I hadn't gotten a deal for both header and sway, and I didn't missed out on the OBX group buy deal, I totally would have gone with OBX, I mean damn.. I just paid 1k for the header.. my JDM typeR header wasn't even that much..

Well, OBX is a brand name and has been around for a while. I'd go out on a limb and say that more people have heard of OBX over Comptech. Probably not in the Honda/Acura circles, but in general.

The jury is still out on the OBX. If the quality is as good as initial reports indicate, then there's really no issue. If the OBX was only $100-$200 cheaper then the Comptech's.. I'd still get the OBX. Why pay more for the same thing. Until I see proof otherwise that the Comptech's are that much better, there's really no arguement in my mind.....

juniorbean: so depsite just a semi modest increase in price, you still would go with the company that has just recently produced headers for our cars? Personally I would opt for the company who has been making them longer and has been "real world" tested by many people...but oh well...a company's gotta start soon or later right?

Well, just b/c they just made headers for our cars doesn't mean they have never made headers. They've been making headers for a very long time.... probably as long as Comptech has been. So price would still win me over. Plus, as Jim said above.. it's warrantied for life... so I'm covered. Better performance, cheaper price.. and lifetime warranty from a company that has been around since 1988, so I'm not worried.... why pay more for the same product??

why is everyone *assuming* Comptech's are better in the first place??

I'm not saying it's true or false, I'm just asking why everyone assumes they are sooooo much better, especially those that have them.

B/c they're pissed about paying so much more for practically the same thing? They need some way to vent, so they buy into the whole thing about how Comptech has better build quality and what not. Basically comptech was alone in the header market, so they could charge whatever they wanted (obviously). Comptechs may be a bit more shiny on the inside, but the performance is the same. I got mine Saturday, and they look great. http://www.thefiresauce.com/Mantis/headers.htm

Juniorbean: I just figured that a company who has made headers for our car specifically would still be better, for the moment, at doing it. But I can see your point.

Dom418: It could be perhaps that Comptech can be seen used on Honda/Acura's racing cars such as their NSX and Realtime Type Rs. But then again those are completely different cars so different header design.

hotelniko14: I agree.

mantis23: I also agree...some people might be pissed...but I still think others believe differently. Me personally, Comptech...I've never heard of them before until I got my CL and basically it seems like they have control of the CL aftermarket market. But my choice for the CTs would still be the same. Maybe I am a little brand oritented, but who knows.

Glad we can agree to disagree

And I think you hit the nail on the head right there. I had never heard of them either until I got my CL... but since they were the only one's really producing stuff for our cars, they became the best and only way to go. If I modded my car 8-10 months ago.. I'd probably have Comptech everything.. springs, sways, exhausts, headers, etc. But, after learning more and more about the industry over the years, and reading others feedback, I learned, for example, that H&R Springs are just as good.

Someone coming to the forum now will see a ton of members with OBX headers and H&R Springs and HKS or other exhausts, etc... so they will not be as "loyal" (for lack of a better word) to Comptech b/c they will have 4 options for each mod whereas the rest of us are just getting used to competition.....

I'd have to go w/ Comptech's if they were 100 bucks more ONLY because they are CARB certified...... Peace of mind for me......

But I'm still waiting, either:

-CT drops their prices

or

-OBX gets CARB'd

Looks like neither one is gonna happen anytime soon...

Sup,

Would GReddy eva release their version of our headers? Damn TBA....It's taking 4 eva... I would like to get the GReddy header to compliment my EVOs . If not I can't decide which one. Comptech or OBX??? Leaning toward Comptech but I think I can get the OBX cheaper... humm... I'm not in a hurry. Let's see the feedback between the two headers b4 I make my final decision.

Payce~!
