Now even the new Camry will look better than our CL
Well if this is the new Camry coming out this fall we are in trouble as far as looks. They say that the 2.2 liter four will increase to 2,4 liters and make as much power as the 6 makes now. Which makes me guess what the 6 will make. I say 225HP. Well, then, now the Accord is in trouble. Hmm...

I think thats but ugly.
But its just a sketch... sketches that early are always very dramatic.
Toyota isnt known for breaking the mold... so it will surprise me if they do.

yeah, i agree....i dont think toyo is going to end up with the front ned like that. its too big of a change for them due to the fact that the camry is for older folks. Maybe they'll make a solar 4-door?? the rear and the side looks tight!!

woo.. the 2.4 liter inline 4 will make as much hp as their current v6?.. 2.4 liter 194hp.. now that is something.. and it does make me wonder how much power their v6 will have if their 4 banger can make 200.. we shall see when it comes out..of course honda/acura currently has two cars with 4 bangers with ~200hp.. integra type r with 1.8L and 195hp and honda s2000 with 2.0L and 240hp

Toyo will do that to the Camry because they are trying to attract younger crowds. Right now the mean age of a Camry owner is 45. They want to bring that down to 35. It can only by done by bold looks and strong engines. Also, there is going to be a new "sporty" Camry to the line up. I cant believe it is too hard for you to believe. Toyo started the shift 2 years ago with the Solara. From now on, it will only amplify.

Here is the whole thing:
"This fall Toyota will launch an all-new Camry. Built on a clean‑sheet platform and with an entirely fresh body and interior, the fifth-generation Camry will be longer, more powerful and considerably more refined.
A Toyota spokesman promises the California‑designed Camry will be a "dramatic departure from the current car." Japanese sources tell us to expect an exciting new sport model as part of the new lineup.
The current 2.2‑liter twin‑cam four will be replaced by a 2.4, which in Japan will be fitted with direct injection. Its output will approach that of the current 3.0‑liter V-6.
The average age of Camry buyers worldwide is presently 45‑plus. Toyota wants to roll that back ten years, making the mid‑size sedan more appealing to thirty-something buyers. Reports from Japan also suggest the new car will have the kind of chassis dynamics sought by younger, more demanding drivers."

here is the pic of the new camry:
New Toyota Camry will be introduced in September and the development has been carried on smoothly so far since our scoop in January.
And now we have the latest photo of the model..
The seventh generation Camry will be far more sporty than the previous versions which were more or less a family sedan.
The side view photo shows its unique line which runs across the lower part of the doors. Together with broad side lace, the line emphasizes the lively image of the car.
Rear door lines are also unique for a sedan. Like Mark U, the line evades the wheel housing and there is no round arch which was common to a sedan..
Other design characteristics include rear combination lights, which wrap round to the side, and the triangle-shaped headlights. These features make the car look far more stylish and exiting compared to ordinary looks of the current model.
As we previously mentioned, the new Camry will have a sporty grade added to the standard grades. The sporty grade will be fitted with16 in. aluminum wheels, sports tuned suspensions and stop light integrated rear spoiler.
Production schedule is also on time. In April the first trial production will start and the production ability will be confirmed. After the long vacation in May, the trial production will move to the next stage.
The new Camry for the USA will be produced both in Japan and at TMMK ( Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky). At the Tsutsumi plant in Aichi prefecture, production of the US specification model will start on July 17 and production of the European specification model will start on August 6. Production of domestic specification model will start in September.
It's still a family vehicle fellas.

It's not a CL-S... that's for sure, but it is a step in the right direction.
In my eyes, Toyota (especially the Camry)will always be "Mom's Car". She drives an Avalon now.

from the side looks very much like a new taurus.
well it is a big imporvement over the current model. But I think their biggest threat is talks of the new altima and maxima with their wonderful engines. Toyota better have a response. A while back they did introduce a sports camry in europe which looked pretty sweet, dont know why they never brought it over here.
they need to seperate the solara more from the camry , maybe they will do it right this time

The Camry is the NUMBER ONE selling car in America. How more right than that can it be?
Just because they do not have a sports Camry over in the US and because you disagree with the Solara strategy it means that they did not do it right? What is right? To auto companies it is vehicle sales which translates in higher stock prices eventually. That is what right is for the auto world. Increasing shareholder value. And the Camry is one for the books.

As camry being a ma' car, the other night a ma' was clicking at 95+ in a 65 zone. WTF, is she pressed hard to take her camry to a tripple speed?!!!
Now CLS riding Nitto's 235/40/18 is a different story. With those tires the CLS just feels as if it is doing 55!
Tires do make a huge difference.

i doubt toyota has the guts to make camry wit that look. um... 4 Cy has 200.. and V6 at least 225... then what about avalon.. avalon has been always have more HP than camry.. so i msaying avalon will have at least 240? EVEN 260? HAHA maybe i m crazy, 280 HP.
The target for camry isnt for teenagers.. it s for my mom.. so toyota will not make camry too sporty, unless they dont wanna Camry to be the best selling car in 2002.

Jsut re-read Gavril's second post and it says the 2.4 liter engine will 'approach' the HP of the current 3.0L V6.. the current Camry V6 produces 194 hp (the Camry Solara is 200hp) so I think the 4 banger will have 180hp and the V6 will probably be about 220-230hp (more than the current GS300).

gavriil,
Looking at the middle pic, I think the rear has a very strong resemblance to the current Maxima.
If Nissan just changed the taillights a little, it would look just like that picture.
I'm surprised that nobody else saw that.

Rear end looks like a cross B/T a crysler 300M and a Maxima. I don't Toyota has seperated from the pack with this one. It still looks like a 4 door Kid hauler. It will no doubt be available as a station wagon, nuff said.

I agree with Soopa....although Toyota has been a bit extroverted as of late, the sketches are detail accurate but embellished. Even Honda made the Odyssey Minivan sketches look sexy!

Not my cup of tea, but it looks OK. Face it, they have to do something like this since many of those 45+ drivers are going to move from Camrys to Highlanders.
The Camry design is long in the tooth these days, and Mazda and Mitsubishi are designing nice sedans these days that steal the 35+ market. Also haven't there been some next gen TL sketches on the web that show a similar design direction?
I wouldn't buy one because if you go Japanese, the Hondas have the best power plants, hands down.
I wish they painted their Cars as nice as GM can.
