That's not what I wrote phi.

How hard is it to post a link to a thread you participated in? Search functions are sketchy at best and sometimes it's easier to ask than to try and find it for two hours.

To expand a little: If you know of a particular thread that will answer the question, why not take a couple of minutes and post a link and save me or someone else a couple of hours? It's called...wait for it...helping people out! Just by your answer it seems to be something you're not interested in.

Ill donate my time to find an answer for you guys. Next time you want to know info on somthing and you arent having any luck searching, PM me. Ill search for you, im a veteran searcher. Ill admit I didnt even know how to use the search function when I started, it is tough on some things, you just have to know what to search for.

I'd rather help you find somthing than have members duke it out over stupid shit.

I think I speak for more than myself here; No one keeps track of how many posts they have and exactly where they posted them at. Asking someone to link a thread they 'participated in' is an impossible notion. I ran out of fingers and toes to keep track of all the posts I've made over the years; so instead of complainig that the search functions are "sketchy at best" (which is probably the case with your passat forum, but it's cake here), take the time to filter the search a litter better. (There's also an advanced search option?) If you want your question answered that bad, it's still ultimately your problem, and your car. Not ours.

Your hyperbole of an example is flawed. It takes us both the same amount of time it would take to find the thread. My question is this: Why would I spend 30 minutes of MY time finding the answer to a question YOU have?!? It's your car, your responsibility you have that problem, you joined the forum on your own, I suggest you learn all the resources of it. It's your choice whether or not you want to take the time to find the answer. I've spent countless hours through the search function learning what I've learned. If you're as new as you say you are, then you too have a lot to learn about this car as well. If you don't find exactly what you're looking for in the thread you found as a search result, I can almost guarantee there's information in that thread that will help you out in the future.

No one memorizes thread titles, thus no one can pinpoint exactly which reply/reponse was the most beneficial.

Do your own homework if you have questions you really want the answers to.

I guess you've never searched before because it's fairly simple and easy to use. Of course, I'll know of a related thread, but the only way to find it is to use the search funtion. I've actually helped out and gave several suggestions, thoughts and answers to many "noobs." However, I will tell someone to search when they ask a generic question regarding an AEM intake. I think these people are just lazy.

Brians makes some great points here. Sometimes I actually look for something I posted and it takes me awhile.. but with the proper filtering, you can find anything.

I usually do a quick search for noobs.. and about 1/2 of the time, I don't even get a thank you...

And 2 hours is an exaggeration... most of the time you can find what you need in 15 minutes... 5 minutes if you know how to work the search engine...

Like everything practice makes perfect, so the more you search the better you get...

When I do post a link, look at the tail end of it... it will have my search string on the end...

Like this one...

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...12&postcount=4

I could have just posted "search noob", but I didn't... I knew that searching for a city in texas would pull up a good "gas mileage" thread...

Members who ask questions are fine... just say please and thank you

Here's my search tip of the day... Use google to seach the CL forums if you are more comfortable using google instead of our search feature...

Like this search for 6spd threads... Just change "6spd" to what ever you want to search for...

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...om&btnG=Search

One nice thing is that you can get around the native search engines limitation of not being able to search for 3 character strings (like CLP or SMR) by using google...

I've gotten alot of PM's from people searching for stuff... or not wanting to start threads. I hate to send my comments in PM's because PM's aren't searchable, but posts here are searchable...

So most of the time it's better to start a thread, and PM a member (or mod) that you think might be helpful and ask that they reply to your question in the a thread and not via PM....

That is so true, I try and comment on every thread I see from a new guy and I would say 75% of the time I get a PM afterwards. I don't mind at all because we are all here because we are Acura enthusiast and believe me I try and get every TL/CL I see to come to the forum. I leave notes on cars all the time I think we should tell the "noobs" to search and if they don't get an answer they are looking for to start a thread. We so called veterans needs to be more open and not be completely hostile and rude when we do respond to them. We are all adults( I use adults loosely) and I am sure no one would talk the way they do to some people here if the person was directly in front of them. I admit sometimes I'll sit back and read a response and think why can't they just answer the new guys question instead of tell him he is a stupid ignorant fool for not searching.Ok nuff said

Well, if the moderators changed baylove's name to gaylove that is wrong. just ban someone if you want, I guess, but calling someone names is so 3rd grade. If the moderator did this they are the same as an obnoxious poster.
I don't think users can alter the names themselves.

If this were 1996 and the internet was new I'd understand it. People are just lazy and they take advantage of the people here who answer their questions. Making a mistake once I can understand. But when you sign up here you should be told about the 'search' button.

when i first saw this thread, i thought "why in the hell should this get stickied?" but after doing some actual READING through a 3-page thread, i think to myself that this is a good thing. it is a point that hasn't been touched or dealt with directly. i have seen how some posters with bad composure come in here and make a total fool of themselves and throw temper tantrums when the truth of their ignorance is rubbed in their faces. so seeing different members expressing thoughts and sentiments on this issue is really good to read. good going, Chris.

everyone will enjoy this place if you just put some effort into doing some actual time and work into finding what you want. it's there, believe me. the search is the best tool we get on here. only bad thing with it is having to wait an entire minute just to re-enter a question when the search doesn't show what you were looking for. patient you must be.

and many thanks to the Monster for answering some questions of my own promptly and beneficially.

Team, I must say.........there are some really good points here! But as someone once said, "WE WERE ALL NOOBS HERE AT ONE POINT IN TIME". Some people just need to learn from there mistakes, and if they cannot, then they need to be repremanded. When someone is asking a question, and some of the "longtimers" come off like assholes, that just opens the door for more critisizm from every end of the board. But, like I said earlier, Lord Helmet............"GREAT THREAD"! Cant we all just get along....."END QUOTE" LOL

oh man, I ran out of edit time. I'm such a noob! The one thing that did come to mind when this topic was brought up was I've seen some racist posts from some noobs. I personally think that kind of stuff should not be tolerated, but hey it's the interent.

Happens a lot around here.

It is easier to post a thread when you're a than search. One, because everyone's lazy and two, because when you're new, it seems like people take pride in starting a thread. Doesn't matter how retarded and redundant it is.

It doesn't take us that long to search something, but it also doesn't take that long for the more "mature" member to point someone in the right direction. Personally, I respect the guys that take the time to type out 100 different times the list of mods that you can get for the CL. And as much as I get a good laugh out of the bashing at times, we're all really here to learn and waste time. Hence the reason, I'm posting this at 10:20 when I really should be working.

Just my .

there needs to be a sticky of "How to use the search button". there's all these idiots saying "i searched, i searched, now help me". it's getting fuckin ridiculous.

There needs to be some sort of tutorial or some shiet.

The problem with writting up a "how to use the search" is that noobs are too stupid to know what they don't know...

Using the search function is easy (and easy to write up instructions for, i.e. use mesh grill* to search for mesh grill, mesh grille, and mesh grilles)... Knowing WHAT to search for is another story...

Look at some of my recent searches for noobs...

"Abilene" (TX) was the search string I used to find the mpg thread...

"Hand Controls" was the search string I used to find the thread w/ the helms scan of the seat removal page...

How the fuck are you going to "write up" that kinda stuff ??

Great Thread and as a certified I have to say that since I purchase my '05 TL in December, Acurazine and it's members have been a fantastic resource for me. I have learned a tremendous amount about my TL and I appreciate what have more because of it. (I know this is thread is in the CL community, but I wanted to speak up).

I will have to give myself a "pat on the back" for knowing search before post rule when I joined. Perfect example is I had that annoying heat shield buzzing problem that a few members had and I couldn't pin point the problem until I took a lttle time and did a thorough search, the end result being I was able to bring in service invoices from other members and Acura service newsletters, discussing, in detail, the problem I had. They fixed the problem no questions asked, and it was all greatly expedited becuase of the information I was able to provide them through this site.

I will have to blame some diminished productivity at work due to this site, but what can you do??

Heck, even when you do search for stuff and find a bunch of threads (like on wiper blades), it's still nice to post a thread asking what the best ones are out here now...

Thank you

I just want to thank all of those who participated in this thread. My whole idea was to bring this group together on a positive level. Hopefully I have done that and we can have less bickering in threads.

If anyone ever needs help in finding anything, by all means, PM me and I'd be glad to help. It wouldn't be the first time.

I need you to help me locate a 1995 Acura NSX (1:1 scale-real-McCoy you bum...none of this 1/18 diecast car cop-out) near minty condition that is under $5000. Can you do that? Hmmm?
