NOOBS!

For the past month or two, it seems as though AZ has had a major attack. Now, I'm no forum veteran by any means and I do tend to post on some other forums as well as AZ. The one thing I've noticed lately is there is lots of noob bashing going on these days in the land of AZ. Now, I know what some of you are thinking, at least the ones who know me... "you bash noobs just as bad if not worse than half of us!". Well, to an extent you are right. HOWEVER!!! A noob has to learn and I don’t bash them right off the bat most of the time. There are two ways to learn: 1.) is for someone to teach you or 2.) just sit back and watch, depending on the circumstances. As I stated, I'm no angel and I realize that. However, when a noob makes his (or her) first post, there is no need to pumel him right off the bat! That shit is rediculous! It's one thing to tell him or her to search but it's another to tell them to search and be a complete dick about it. There's no need for that. On the other hand, if the noob has an attitude problem to begin with, it’s understandable IMHO-perfect example: Gaylove.

I’m not sure about any of the other technical forums here but I know the 2nd Gen CL forum is CRAWLING with noob’s lately. In all honesty, I probably have seen less than a handful of good threads within the last month or so. We still need to give them a chance people and stop being assholes! When I go to another forum and introduce myself, I don’t get flamed like half the people here do even if I ask a question that’s been covered a million times in my initial post. There is a nice way to tell someone to search and there’s an asshole’s way. Get real.

We were all noob’s once…

For the record: I realize this is a public forum and people will always share their and it's to be expected.

Being a noob is different than saying stupid, incomplete, incoherent things, which I've seen alot more of lately. nothing wrong with being a noob.

Look at them like kid brothers, thats what I try to do. Some will be annoying at first, but once the get in the groove they will get the hang of it.

I'm a noob!!!!

You can look at it this way. The recent influx of noobs means theres now more CL infusiates!! Which is always a good thing. Its also means it's a time for you CL veterans to show off your knowledge/mods/etc and shine!

I think it's ok if you first joined and didn't realize there is a search button etc. I think if you just post for the sake of posting ideas that ran across your mind without using search over and over something should be said.

I will say this. I'm a noob and check in here a few times a day; I try to do as Helmet said and kick back and observe. I have only posted a few times. There is a lot of knowledge here I'm sure, but compared to the Passatworld forums you guys treat noobs like a liability and are dicks a good portion of the time. I'm sure I will get flamed because of that statement but keep this in mind; this is my general feeling after only being here a short while. I still consider myself an outside observer, if you will. If you can't take a 3rd party's word for it than whose can you?
How hard is it to post a link to a thread you participated in? Search functions are sketchy at best and sometimes it's easier to ask than to try and find it for two hours. Some of us don't have two hours to spend online. If you feel good about slapping a noob around, for asking what I'm sure they feel is a legit question, then go surf porn instead. Better yet, just stf up!
Lord Helmet, I thank you for your observation and hope the tone improves a bit. I don't know that I'll stick around long if it doesn't.

Dont be afraid to post. Im going to try and make the 2nd gen CL forums better for all of us, and if that means cracking down on veteran members so be it. I think most members are guilty of at least once asking something that has already been discussed.

A very necessary thread. But honestly, you are always going to find a that didn't take the time to read, search, or to learn that most of what the plan on doing has already been done. This is a good forum for the information and opinions. Most people need to grow some thicker skin.

Hopefully Gaylove learns to actually read the forums rather than just stare at pictures; regardless he's still the biggest douche to roam these forums

The thing about GaybuttLove is that he started 10 thread in 10 minutes about stupid stuff. It would have been a whole lot less dramatic had he posted it all on 1 thread. That and he called us little bitches, and that made me mad.

any of y'all remember Cog Neuro Sci? He was ragging on people (me) by his 2nd post.

Asshole said that Honda builds the greatest engines, and if they made a v8, it would be better than any other companies.

So i chimed in and said that until Honda actually builds a production v8, it's up for debate. so then he goes into his spiel about how my ego makes me a fanboi and yada yada yada, and everything he says IS verifiable and he has his sources, and its a waste of his time to present his sources and on and on...until he got his ass BANNED.

And to think, that muthafucker reported ME to the mods, because he felt that whenever I asked for him to back up his ascertains with facts/sources, I was playing mind games on him.

Not all noobs suck...but noobs like that suck.

17 - 19?

FYI: Ultimately this thread is not to attack Gayboylovesbutts. Although he makes a perfect example as to how NOT to act if you're a noob.

The problem that is happening is that now the CL is becoming less expensive and parents are buying them as first cars for their immature kids. You will always have that problem as a generation gets less expensive, look at the 1st Gen sometimes they get a great batch of retarded noobs. Been lucky so far in the 2nd Gen TL , there isn't any out of control noobs I can think of.

For the past 3 years, most of my questions have been answered through searching. I've posted redundant questions but they were all answered nicely and no one has called me a noob... Compared to other forums, I find most members here really nice. The ones that do get labeled noobs over and over again are usually deserving of it (Gaylove). Gave me a good laugh though.

Oh yea...im not trying to bash him...just wanted to see if the age was why he had that mindset...that will also allow other ppl to recognize that when dealing with some noobs...older noobs sit back...young newbs are your usual bothersome kids on aim....those u ignore...or just get them going out of your way...bashing them is adding fuel to their ritalin fire.....

Does it not say when you join that many problems/questions can be answered by searching? Or when you join maybe give a FAQ link. Or post a sticky on each forum section that cleary states that searching for things will help get answers to questions asked before. This is what other car boards I belong to do.

Being new & asking questions is fine. I have a probelm when soemthing dumb comes up like a question about the maintance required light, or brake rotors & pads or radar detectors, all of which would bring up TONS of posts if searched for.

Well I think the CL was pointed towards youngsters since it is very quick and sporty and uncomfortable for those old guys that like do drive around in their S500 and Cadi's and it is a great car for the money so people are just making the right decisions.

...Take it back to showing some love for the noobs

So other members should search and do the work for you? I believe the search function is as easy to use as Google.

It works well but not as good as google. The 4 letter minimum and 60 second search intervals get in the way sometimes.

There isn't much you can't find on AZ with the search function. IMO: AZ search > Google

I've even found out how to keep my pants from sticking to my legs from static electricity here!

Exclamation

yes i am a noob, i will admit it, and i dont have a problem with it either gotta start somewhere, my concern is that you make one or two posts, get labeled as a noob ridiculed and turned down so harsh some times that you dont even feel like posting or trying to ask a question on these forums, you would rather just look at the pictures for the simple fact of not getting turned down in a rude way, yes there are a few times when i should have searched and didnt, then there are also time i search and get a bunch of garbage that has no relevance to what i am looking for. hopefully this post will help change some minds. you can always learn something from someone else, maybe something small or simple, or he may even seem like a idiot but you can always learn from others!!!!!

There is definitely a tightly knit bunch on this forum, with plenty of XL egos. And it IS hard to break into. You have to wear your thick skin!

OBSERVATION: The people here can be extremely friendly and helpful, but only if you introduce yourself just right. That's a generalization, but it's what I've seen over and over.

Mostly great peeps, but there are a small handful of members who "shoot from the lip" and that sends the lurkers back into the woodwork.

To me, this is a small price to pay to for the wealth of information and expert advice that can be found here, but LH and the others are right: We have to be a bit more tolerant, or else this forum will become static - no new members.

Forums come and forums go, and if you've ever seen one die off, you know it's because they were unable to attract enough new members.

Just my
