Noob Question from me about headlights

Alright guys, so I graduated three weeks ago and have had time to continue work on the CL.

So today I started changing out the headlights. When I was pulling off the old headlights, I noticed a port with a bulb in it on the 2001 headlights, but the 2003 headlights do not have a port for this bulb.

Here's a pic with them side to side for comparison :

When I changed out the headlights on my first CL I never noticed this...or it wasn't there at all...

What the hell is this?

I never thought I would need to ask questions about this car again, but oh well, thanks!

Looks like someone added in a pair of city lights. Definitely not OEM. What are they wired to?

No idea, it was dark last night when I was working, I'm about to go back out and finish the job. I took the bumper off, switched out the internals on the headlights, now I just need to slap them in and bolt up the bumper.

I'll let you know when I find out, I don't even think they turn on...

I hope Bill (pitts) sees this and chimes in.

Im wondering if it was a shortcut to getting DRLs.

Cant tell. But yea im thinking DRL although by the placement, it might only make the housing "glow"

As per civic stated, looks like "city lighting" was done based on placement of port/bulbs.

i know on the TL, we have the opening for "city" lights molded into the outer housing, just not "cut" out though (but the reflector does not have the opening though)

also OP, maybe take a photo slightly further out, in order to be able to see the whole housing
