that is simply stunning...I might have to borrow that idea.

Where did you get the dash piece for the navi screen. Looks like the hole is bigger than the stock screen.

i spent about $1900 for the navigation unit, screen and dash parts. its just the stock navi dash piece with an Alpine screen behind it. the cutout is slightly bigger than the Alpine screen but the trim ring will hide the gap. you'll also need the hazard switch from a navi CL since the non-navi hazard switch is located where the screen goes. you will lose the clock as well. i also have a DVD/CD changer that connects with the screen and the Alpine head unit to play movies. i did the entire install myself and spent about one week working on the new face plate for the radio and A/C controls as well as doing all the wiring. the antenna is hidden under the rear deck lid as its just a little square about 1" in size that sticks anywhere. i believe the factory acura navi is an alpine unit as well, if im not mistaken?

damn, that does look fucking incredible....the alpine unit is probably better than the factory unit anyhow....the dash piece and hazard button are cheap as hell on the internet at that site that sells the OEM parts for our cars....i love the clean look of that install..what is the custom dash faceplate made out of?? did you have to rewire the climate controls or are all the parts simply RELOCATED...if its just all relocated, thats a pretty simple install, just making the faceplate would be the biatch....let us know!!

Having the a/c controls seperate and NOT in the freakin navi alone is worth doing that !

Only if the engineers at acura werent common-sense BliND !

the dash piece and hazard switch i paid about $130shipped from acuraautomotiveparts.com

the A/C control wires easily reach down so its simply just relocated. the hardest part is mounting the screen and A/C controls as there are no mounting holes or brackets there already. making the faceplate took some time as well to get it good. all i used to make that was 1/8" masonite and a router.

yeah the Alpine navi is better than the stock since there are no A/C controls integrated into the screen. when you change the radio you dont have to worry about losing the navi voice and you can easily hook up a dvd changer to the screen without having to use or try to locate an RGB converter. at first i was bummed i didnt get the navi in the first place, but after doing this, im glad i didnt get it.

good info, thanks for the tips, by the way, is there a cheaper navi head unit that would be compatible with a setup like yours? or is that the only navi unit alpine makes??

the navi and head unit are independent of eachother. you can use any single din sized radio. the navi voice comes out through the monitor..it has a small built in speaker in it. alpine only makes one navigation unit...the NVE-N852A

Mik3y,
I've been thinking about this day and night for about the last week. I started asking around on @cur@world.com and someone pointed me here to your post.

The install looks nice. I'm thinking about doing this to my TLS with Kenwood DVD/Navi system as I can get it cheaper than the Alpine. Plus I like the look/feel a little better.

Good work. I like it. Do you think we could meet up sometime so I could check out your work? I'm in SD and often come up to Orange County. Email me if so. Thanks!

dude, how did you get such a good price on the navi and screen and head unit?? 1900 for all parts??? that navi unit alone retails for 1900 without the screen or additional head unit!

here's why.....

It may be technologically cool but ergonomically retarded -
if ur judging only by the looks alone, then yea, the setup in the screen looks 'tight' - but besides that i shouldnt have to wait for the screen to get ready THEN i dont wanna go through 3-4 steps just to turn the AC/Heater on.

Step 1) Turn on the car and wait about 5 sec for the navi to be ready
Step 2) Press the button on the right to go to the a/c menu
Step 3) Press on the MAIN A/C ON button then at the speed u want it at
Step 4) Set the temperature to the desired setting

Vs

The knob system where u just turn the knob ANY time u want, with or without looking..... Gets the exact same job done faster and w/o much hassle.

Seems like i'm whining but it plain SUCKS to have to do this EVERY SINGLE time. And let alone the fact that u HAVE to look at the screen and make sure u press the right button(s), which sux even harder when ur doing this traffic. I think some cars even the radio control in the navi :shakehd:

Maybe i'm harder on the poor system cos my ac doesnt work right and maybe cos i'm in tx where ur car is microwave on wheels when its been sitting there for more then 2 mins !

i sell car audio products on eBay so i got a good deal on them. the $1900 was for the navi, screen and dash parts...the head unit is not inluded in that.
