No tranny Filter! WTF!!!!

When I called my dealer yesterday to schedule the 15,000mi. service I asked if that included a tranny service (oil & filter), he said all they do is drain and refill the tranny. There is NO filter! hmmmmmmmmmm ok!! The CL is the first car I have owned. All other vehicles I owned have been 4x4 Chevys, and their trannies (TH350, TH400, and TH700R4) ALL had big phat filters. Can anybody shed some like into my head why Acura did not put filters in their transmissions!!!! PEACE

I would be shocked if this trans does not have a filter. I did not think that was possible. Good question for Wayne or Jens.

The manual makes no mention of trans fluid change. I had mine done by Park Ave Acura and they didn't do it. Not flaming, just facts.

Heres the lowdown. We reccomend changing the tranny fluid at 30k miles in the NY metro area. It certainly won't hurt to change it at 15k and if you don't mind the extra $, you can do so particularly if you drive aggresively. There is no servicable tranny filter on these trannys.

Correct, me if i'm wrong Acura/Honda tranny have tranny filter, but it's internal filter means you have to take out your transmission oil pan to replace our tranny filter..

I was CLEAR on it ! Others weren't ! I drive 200 miles a day, somewhat aggressive and MY dealership, recommended, due to MY driving habits, to change it ! So please refrain from flaming me next time.

So I guess that statement applies to 95% of the people here.

Thanks Wayne ! I only bring my car to my dealership. I did that with my 1998 Accord coupe and at 79K, my tranny went out and HONDA paid for the entire replacement. Why, because of my long term record with that dealership ! I don't play mechanic as some do here !
Thanks for your support !

Now if we only had a trans temp gauge we would realy know what was going on with our trans. I'm sure using the SS heats that puppy up quite a bit.

Hummm... An external in line trans filter hooked to a large trans cooler with a temp gauge. Now that would add proactive trans care.

Guys,

Don't feel bad about not having a tranny filter......Some GM vehicles don't even have a way to drain/add tranny fluid! Or even to check the level. They have factory sealed transmissions.

WAYNEG,
I hear that Honda/Acura automatic transmissions don't last long under normal driving conditions. They are the weak part of a good car. Is this true?

Really haven't seen many problems with durability. There was a shift issue in the RL a few years ago- but nothing major since. We really don't have any more problems than the other quality manufacturers.

Wayne,
Were talking HONDA and ACURA. I have to say, I am ANAL about my cars, so anal, I bought my 98 Accord coupe, SERVICED IT BY THE BOOK, to My Service dept. rolls the red carpet to me....get the idea, so at 78K miles, my tranny went out! However, they (Honda) paid out $5000.00 and I paid the $600.00 in labor, so I have no complaints, other than why did that tranny go out soooooo soon in my book and NO, I didn't drive as aggressive as I do with my CLS, but I don't think they compare ? Or do they........
