Nighthawk Black Paint Question and Name a good paint shop in Phila
I took my car to the local body shop who has done a lot of work on my family's cars. Here is the quote I got for minor things:
Repaint Front Cover - 300
Repaint Hood - 350
Blend Fenders if needed - 225
Paintless Dent Removal L/F Door - 75
Paintless Dent Removal R/F Door - 75
Touch up rear cover - N/C
Polish Scratches - R/F; R/R quarter - N/C
I have a couple questions:
a) He said that they may need to blend the front fenders to make the paint match the hood, since the paint is special (nighthawk). This made me a little nervous. Is this common practice?
b) Is this quote reasonable and are there any other good paint/body shops in the NE philadelphia area I should be looking at?
All help is appreciated. Thanks

It's black so blending the fenders is probably not neccessary but blending is a common practice; basically taking the clear coat to the fenders. Easiest thing to do is to take the hood off the car completely, sand it down, filler, primer and reshoot. Same with the bumper cover. My hood is all chipped up so I will have to do the same thing (also have NHBP). If you want, I can give you a free quote but the above does not look unreasonable; in fact, it is pretty good. Just did a BMW with similar small damage repair for $1,900. PM me if you want to discuss further. I'm in the Bridesburg area.

when my car was at the body shop, i had my hood repainted. it was very noticable to me. i'm not sure if it was because of paint fade or because road wear wasn't the same as the fenders.

u should get it blended if you going to repaint the hood and front bumper, the newer paint may look little dark or shiner than your old ones, blending will make them flow more together and less noticeable...
The price is reasonable for aa decent job, as long as you seen their works before, and you liked them. GO for it

Thanks for the replies -- My next question is regarding re-painting the entire car. I figure what I quoted above is roughly a grand. Now, there would still be scratches on the car that they cannot get out. So, would anyone recommend re-painting the entire car and can I expect to get a quality job at approx $2500? Or is this on the low side?
As you can probably tell, I am a little nervous about getting any body/paint work done to my car. Just need some advice from those who have done so. Thanks.

I concur with the above. Full paint job would start at about $2,200 and then would go higher depending on the amount of damage to the body. You probably would not need that, however, if the hood and bumper are done correctly. You would be amazed at what a good wet sand and buff job (by a professional of course) can do for a car's finish.
Make sure if you do decide to go with just the repair of the hood and bumper cover that they take it off the car. You should see "R&I" on the estimate for these items. Don't want any obvious signs that the car has been worked on.

Def interested in getting a second opinion and quote.
Also, does anyone know of a reputable place to get the wet sand/buff job or should any body shop be qualified to do this?
