New V8 CL from Acura
Tags: A V8 Acura RL Sport Coupe?
http://thehollywoodextra.blogspot.co....html#comments
Guys, I came upon this article on the internet. If this is true, that means Acura really listens to all of their enthusiasts for all this time. A V8 platform luxury rear-wheel sport coupe? For me this is like a child on a Christmas morning. However, given the history of the Acura, I would be highly surprised if they decided to launch this model. Nevertheless, I’m crossing my fingers, and hope this would be true…
Have any of you ever heard of this rumor?

I don't believe that at all. If they do come out with something, it is likely that we will not see anything until right before it's release. Honda has always kept new vehicles pretty hush-hush.

It's all rumor and guesses. But It's is time for some coupe action!
Acura focused on the Sedans - TSX, TL, and RL. already out.
Now focused on SUVs - new MDX and RDX, out soon.
Next, how about not 1 but 2 new coupes!
The TSX based coupe seems most plausible but I want one off the RL goodies.
Also, tired of waiting!

i think it's possible, but the buzz in the rumormill from alot of other places too is that the CL will possibly be coming back so i don't see there being two coupes launched at once if either of them get made at all. also, the tsx coupe was the rsx, which has been axed due to the civic using the rsx platform, for all intensive purposes. i wouldn't expect that they would try it again under the tsx name.
the only reason i would doubt the CL V8 coupe to come out would be that the performance sounds like it would be on par with the next nsx (engine and power output wise, not necessarily raw 1/4 mile or acceleration numbers).
of course i'm excited either way and look forward to see what they put out for '07. i think the CL or the re-birth of the type-s (the other floating rumor) would be pretty exciting.

I sure hope so... unfortunatly i dont think honda or acura will put out something like this, at least not for a while. I like the looks though, simple yet original. keep your fingers crossed.....

V8 and RWD is very un-acura, but I said that about a V-10 NSX....
We'll have to see, but there have been rumors for awhile about a sub-nsx sports car in the 40-50K price range for years:
http://vtec.net/modelmatrix/
Like fuzzy said, alot of us might not be able to afford it new, but it might make for a nice buy on the used car market (a couple of years after it's introduced)...
I've got 50k miles on my CLS, so I'm good for awhile...

It is a nice thought, but it would probably be at least $40-$50k if it's based off the RL. It would be one of those cars that most could pick up a few years after release. I am very curious to see what Acura has in mind though, since they're getting rid of the RSX and will only have Sedans and SUVs in they're line up.

I read in a July edition mag (not sure which one, maybe Motor Trend) that Acura plans on remodeling the TSX and they are introducing a 2 door version in the US.
Im all for a new 2 door acura but I dont want it to carry the CL name because that makes ours that much more special.

my boss (Acura dealer) said he met canada's directors a few weeks ago and said that they will try to get a sports coupe or roadster released. the project ain't official enough to tell a release date yet.

On the avatar deal, it's just common courtesy to NOT use a 'tar that already in use by someone else...
Not a big deal, but it does make it kinda confusing 'cause I look at avatars more then usernames when reading threads, so as long as you guys are ok with people confusing/mistaking you for the other, it's all good

but i would'nt worry about being mistaken for eachother, i spend 99% of my time on the TL boards, where CL'er 1st & 2nd Gen's is not known. just a little disconcerting when someone decides to be a ramrod and attack you for using an avatar that's floating around on the internet for free use.

Why base an upcoming Acura coupe on the RL platform and not the TL? Doesn't really make sense......I think the TL would look good in a coupe form...

The decision to base the styling off the RL or TL is another thing...
I personally like the idea of an RL coupe (but with CL style taillights - I don't like the TL or RL tails).

i think the others have it dead on though when they mention that it's to compete with cars of the same class by other automakers that are popular at this time. after all, it's just a business when you come down to it.

I would love to see a RL coupe over a TL based coupe but that is me. According to my buddies in the Acura store Honda is going to gear everything to go pure luxury now after Lexus and the german boys.
It would be nice to see a coupe from them again that so many people loved like the Legend coupe.

Acura needs to release a very powerful car due to all the competition out here now with infiniti, nissan, bmw, chevy, ford and many more. All of the new cars now days have alot more horses than mid 200's. I think it will help acura sales if anything.

^^ True. But look back a couple years ago when the CL was out 2001-2003. The competition amongst two-door/mid-sized performance cars was more limited. There wasnt much out. Like now Lexus and the other automakers are gearing towards more power/performance/luxury. Like the new IS 350, what a beautiful car, looks-wise and its got plenty of power (IMO). Not to say that Acura is'nt keeping up with eveyone else, becasue they are not (they are constantly setting the bar for other automakers). I guess you could say the CL was slightly ahead of its time..lol..

Acura going 'pure luxury'? I don't see the new RDX out in Aug anything near luxury, and the more believable 'next Acura coupe' based off the TSX is not exactly pure luxury either. I don't even think the new NSX V10 would be considered pure luxury either. The most luxurious thing Acura has is the RL and it ain't exacting blowing out the shop doors.
Also I can't believe Acura doesn;t even have a coupe in the line-up now.
the NSX is not a mainstream car and won't be out til 2008.
