Saab has a strong reputation for building UGLY cars & I have to say this is the 1st Saab I have seen that actually looks good. I would buy it.

i like it.
passat mixed with 5-series....
for the first time in my life i find a SAAB interior agreeable.
ive always been cool with the exteriors. didnt love but didnt hate.
def dig interior relative to old saabs tho. just would have to replace the green lights with some red leds.

I may get some flames for this but what the heck. GM owns Saab...looks nice but I won't be picking one up because of that. Already got screwed by them once in 99' (tahoe sport lemon POS) and that was enough. GM quality is really poor, and has most likely spread like a disease to Saab's cars. Not to go off on a tangent but same goes for Ford owned car companies...had a POS probe in 93 and they handled it terribly..I honestly would have bought an s60 t5 instead of my CLS if Ford didn't own Volvo.

ANY car looks good with a bodykit and big rims. If you still like the car with no body kit and 16" rims, that is asolid design.
It is a huge improvement over the previous model, great work SAAB!

New 9-3
On the Saab website, there is quite a bit (but not a full set) of information on the new model. I for one will check it out. I did not like the previous generation, but who knows......

It looks EXACTLY like the Opel Vectra, and there's a lot of 9-5 in there as well.
It's a suspected huge improvement, given that the 9-3 in 1997 was more or less a rebadged 900, which has its roots based from 1993.
Pretty nice.

I expect pricing to be similar to the current 9-3, which is close to the TL. Base model around 28k and loaded around 31k. A coupe variant would also be around our CL. Can't tell from the pics, but is the new 9-3 a hatch? Also, one of the pics says this is the Aero model...which means they won't have a Viggen.

New Saab 9-3
From 150HP to 210HP in Europe off of a new 2 liter engine. The middle version will make 175HP. Saab engineers just change the boost which starts at 0.5 bar (7.3 PSI) to 0.85 bar (12.5 psi for the 210HP version).
The car will start selling in September of 2002 in Europe.

Externally it looks good. I think they did a great job keeping it immediately recognizable as a Saab, yet they worked on the rough edges. Looks great from the rear where the lip on the trunk-lid makes a spoiler unecessary, I am guessing.
Inside, the dash is just way too busy in my opinion. What is up with the 100 buttons by the display there?
The room for the rear passengers looks large enough for its size. Overall, a great job.
Have no idea about pricing, I am sure it will be comparable with the current model.
Dont forget, Saab is owned by GM. Another sign of GM's overall improvement. And wait till you see the 9-3X.

I am not a big fan of SAABs but these look really good, except they are just quirky in the cockpit layout and driving position, at least generation was. Maybe this generation will be better, have to wait and see.

From a current owner's perspective...
Being a big SAAB fan (I am currently on my second 93, 2001 Silver, 5 speed) I like the old generation simply because they were different, (or everyone's favorite word when describing SAAB's "quirky"). With this model, GM has fully brought SAAB into it's fold (the Epsilion platform will be the standard platform on most GM cars). Don't get me wrong, the car is very nice, I would buy or lease one. But it looks like everything else out there. There's some Volve S60 in there, a hint of BMW 3 series, a dash of Lexux IS300 (as some one pointed out), a sprinkling of VW Passat, etc. The reason I was attracted to SAAB (and have been since I was 14, I'm 28 now) was because they were different, innovative. (SAAB was one of the first manufacturers to make turbo charging maintsream and standard back in 1976.)
I'm glad that they made the change so that the SAAB is introduced to a whole new market, but dissappointed at the same time that SAAB's originality is being somewhat watered down.
