New Rotors, Old Pads?

I have the classic warped rotors, but changed my pads less than a year ago. Can I just replace the rotors and keep the pads on the calipers? Has anyone done this with or without problems? Thanks.

you could but it's not recommended.

it's always best to start w/ 2 perfectly flat surfaces.

Consider the cost of the pads as being small relative to all of the other work you're doing ... takin' everything apart, installing new stuff, and then putting it all back together. Besides, at least you'd know that everything seated together and hopefully give you peace of mind that the job was done completely.

^^^^^^^^^ For $100 on ebay, I got some axxis pads. Don't cheese out on using old pads on new rotors, makes no sense at all.

Sure it's nice to start with everything nice and fresh, but if the pads are in good shape there is no reason not to use them.

Even with the rotors being warped, the pads should still be reasonable flat. The pads will wear to what ever surface they're meeting soon enough anyway. That's why it's not necessary to always turn the rotors when you change pads (unless they are badly grooved ). The pads will wear in.

Rough up the pads to help break them in and check for grooves; I am planning to use 3-month old pads on my new Legend rotors- the dealer quoted me doing the same thing, but I'll do it myself.

I got a set of slightly used non warped rotors off the board to replace my warped ones. They were cut & I used my pads. It works just fine. No problems for about 3K miles.

As mentioned, shouldn't be a problem depending on how many miles you put on them to begin with. Chances are that you will still get good wear from them and they should not cause any problems.
