New RL or '06 300GS
Similarly equipped, the GS will run you more & give you less in terms of engine/drivetrain. I'm guessing you're not looking to track your car, so the AWD safety & J35 engine in the RL sounds like it'll be great for you.
But I do recommend test driving both. I have a feeling the Lexus will feel better to be inside (unless you're a tech nut like me). I think the RL looks better and it sure as shit will be tons more exclusive... but that can be a good or a bad thing for you.

Really depends on what your Mom wants. I've looked at both and the GS interior is top notch, very rich and high quality. You feel like you're wrapped in the $50Gs. The exterior is very nice too. When you pay $50g you want to see and feel it, and Lexus does that beautifully.
The RL is not shabby but it more techy than luxurious. I think most women would go for the GS over the RL. I was impressed by both cars but the GS is striking, the RL is a fancy looking Accord.

thnx for the replies guys....i think i'm gonna have to go and test drive both and take from there.....123456speed i agree with you about the luxury feel, my mom has a hard time checking her email i cant imagine her figuring out all tech things that the RL comes with
Well My dad just took home his 2006 Lexus GS300 on Monday. I love the quality of the interior and the nice features as well. Keep in mind he just got rid of his 2004 Acura TL with 9k miles on it because of the very POOR quality the car had. We thought maybe RL, but with the issues the TL had and hearing about the issue people are having with the SH-AWD and electrical issues we decided that he would go Lexus this time around. You can get the GS300 AWD with Navi for just a taaad bit more than the RL.
Good luck, but I guess my official vote would be towards the GS300.

I'd get neither car. But if I had to choose I'd say The GS. The RL is jusy way over priced I think. It feels well.....very Honda like. A Lexus doesn't have that feeling of being a Toyota.
Shouldn't you be comparing Acura RL with Lexus LS??? To me, those two seem to be more compatible with each other.. I think GS is more like TL.. sports sedan.. Personally I would go with Lexus just b/c of its interior noise level.. you don't hear a thing!!! Plus it's your mom driving it.. I'm sure she's not looking for hwp or torque, it's all about comfort and luxury for women... no??
Yea I agree about the luxury and comfort level, she has an RX300 now and loves the shit out of it, plus from any of my experiences Lexus does pretty much have the best customer service out there. But I still wanna check out the whole hype of the the RL. As far as the LS goes the price tag on it is bit higher than the GS. I also think that the LS is outdated, its more of a grandma car IMO.

hahaha it's a pimped out Grandma if she's driving LS.... oh my mistake then.. I was under assumption that RL and LS cost about the same... You are right... Lexus does have the best rated Customer Service, not that those cars even need any service done... I love my acura.. but I sure wish I was driving Lexus... might sound stupid but I will glady take SC430 over NSX and save $20,000.... that's just me.. i go for luxury than performance... what do u think I'm driving CL over IS300 when they cost the same...?? =)
Dr. Kill... it's best to check the noise level of both cars from its website... unless Acura really stepped up with this new RL, I can bet my money on it that GS would be ALOT quieter..

Get with the RL
I am really sure that your moms will love the RL. It has that new distinct look that for some reason (lol) won't be noticed on the road. You know with the lexus there will be a avalon or a camry that look just like it in 5 months. Plus the RL's interior is a bit more tasty and chocked full of get driver comforts. And it will more than likely round out to be alil cheaper. your choice good luck bro.

on which car would be the better choice.
