New PCM tomorrow or no?

Getting my seat heater fixed tomorrow. Dealer also ordered a new powertrain control module that those of us that got an early tranny replacement with no new PCM supposedly need to help our POS tranny. It is supposed to extend the life of the auto transmission by reducing power between shifts. I am just looking for some opinions if you guys think i should let them swap my PCM or not. Basically is reduced power worth possibly extending the life of the tranny? I personally think the tranny will fail if its gonna fail and a new PCM won't make any difference. I plan on keeping the car possibly over 100k miles so that is my issue.

I have the same dilemma ... like you I plan on keeping my car past 100K miles. I am thinking that the PCM may help the tranny last a bit longer. But I still haven't scheduled the fix. I would be interested in your feedback if you go through with the repair.

i would do it if i were you. its much smoother, and i did a race test to see if its slower and if there is any difference, it was insignificant.
but, if they do not force you to do it now, just wait till your getting close to 100k and then get it.

I just hope they will honor the warranty if i decline it. I wonder if they would let me do it later like at 99000 miles.

I heard, from an Acura technician, that the computer is to be replaced with faulty transmissions, because the computer controls the shifts and could have caused the failure. So both are supposed to get replaced at the same time.

The new pcm is basically the same except that it slighty retards the timing in 1st and 2nd gear...just to ensure a softer 1-2 and 2-3 shift. As far as performance...you really won't notice at all. Besides almost all of us have our second trans or thirds...and I don't think anyone including myself has seen lower et's at the track cause of it. Go for it..

I had it done, just wish I could have it reversed, it sucks now in SS when downshifting, it hold the gear until it likes what RPM's it wants to downshift in

I WOULD SAY DON'T DO IT. WISH I DIDN'T

I've seen no decline in performance whatsoever. Downshifting in SS seems the same. Actually before I couldn't downshift 3-2 at 60+, now I can with no problems around 60-61mph. Also, the 2-3 upshift seems MUCH more crisp and faster.

It doesn't chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift like the old tranny. But I don't really miss losing traction.

That is one thing I would like to fix in mine. Currently the 2-3 shift seems to take forever. It's like the tranny is thinking "is it time, is it time????"

Still undecided tho.

Just like i figured some mixed reviews here. I just feel like if its not broke, don't fix it. Ant7701-I will probably take your advice-you should know. I'll let you all know before and after results tomorrow unless I change my mind again.

Well I went ahead and let them put in the ECU. The service guy said it was ultimately up to me but if I waited to do it or never did it Acura would be less likely to help me with my tranny if I have a problem after 100,000 miles. He said there would be a good chance they would "goodwill" one to me if i had a problem right after the warranty at like 110k as long as I maintain it (change fluid, etc.) Anyhow it seems fine so far. I drove the shit out of it all the way home. My VSA light would blink like crazy on the 1-2 shift and it would break lose exactly the same on the 1-2 shift with VSA off. The shifts seem smoother, but they also seem to happen a bit faster as well. I am pleased so far. I can't wait to take it to the track to find out for sure.

I gate-shift at the track so I determine when the tranny shifts. But gate-shifting I did 14.510 @96.5 with the new tranny. 2.1 60's. Icebox only

You can gate shift all you want but when the shift happens the ecu will pull timing for a split second to smooth the shift and reduce shock on the tranny.
