I had 17k miles when I installed the S/C. I have 23K miles now. Most of the miles are not freeway miles, if that makes any different . I drive about 12 miles to and from work each day. The pinging in my engine continues even I had the 100 oct race gas in it. Maybe like scalbert say I had a set of bad rings in my #2 cylinder. My new 3.5 engine is bolting together just fine. As of this moment it is ready to go back into the car. I will ask 6spdmanuel to help me post some pictures in this website, once my car is running.

We have got to be real close to seeing pics of the new Type S/C intake manifold with an integrated liquid/air intercooler!

I would assume so but haven't gotten a call yet. I did stop by the shop on Friday about other business and it wasn't there; probably with the welder.

I went by there last week and they were not done. It had slipped to the back of the list since they had “real” customers' order to fulfill. When I was previously there and stated it was gone and probably with the welder, it was under the table instead.

Also, they closed for two weeks for the holidays.

I was going to wait until mid week next week and stop by again if I have not heard anything. I'll update as soon as I know something. But I am getting anxious.

Not yet. I have been embroiled in a few projects at the office and taking care of the girls the rest of the time.

As I told Ramanan: I thought about trying to work on the board when holding one of my girls but my wife wouldn't appreciate a soldering and solder splattering around an infant.

When I am at the shop to do the e-Manage dyno I will have them weld in the extra bung for the sensor though. That looks like it may be two weeks from tomorrow.

What are you doing in two weeks, just your car, or others also at this time?

steve...you told us to remind u about the RES mod u will try to create and the intake manifold spacer. Maybe with your designs...we could see some nice gains w/ both installed. So this is just a reminder

My car with just the e-Manage at this, a base line and then tuned. I will also be doing a NA TL-S and AV6 with the e-Manage.

This should give us NA and boosted numbers for the e-Manage.

How ironic, I haven't been out for extended periods for quite a while and who leaves me a message at home. Yep, it is done and waiting on me at the machine shop.

I will be picking it up Thursday or Friday and doing a test fit that night.

I just took some quick pictures of it out of the car. I'm not going to drop it in tonight as I really don't feel like it; been too busy this week and feel like relaxing for a bit. But I will probably drop it in tomorrow during one of the girls naps.

Anyway, here it is. The ports on the side of the plenum are for the MAP sensor and vacuum fittings. The ports on the side of the IC is for the water line fittings.

Now for the kicker, I now have over $1600 invested into this project. The shop is working up some prices for me and should have them next week. At the same time I will need to source a good pump for continuous duty operation (about 10 GPM required), a large enough heat exchanger and a reservoir. All of which will take me well over $2000 in the end.

Talking with the shop though, he doesn't feel that unless we do large quantities (10 - 20+) that the price would drop too much. So the target price was way off and this may end up being close to $2000.

However, I am looking for additional sources for the IC core as Bell Engineering also provides similar units. They can also provide the reservoir, heat exchanger and pump if need be. I'll know more about the costs in the next week or two.

SWEEEET !!!

Nice job Steve!

BTW, I was thinking of bypassing the coolant line thru the throttle body - I think I read that you and someone else had done that - any cold start roughness, downsides, "problems", etc...

I know that my intake and Blower and really hot when I shut down - will it help alot?

Do you need to cap-off the throttle body inlet and outlet 'nipples'?

very nice scalbert.

It looks like the wait was worth it because those are some damn high quality welds...

Kudos to you and wish you success.

There have not been any drivability problems. However, don't expect any significant reduction in temperature as quite a bit of it is through radiant heating of the metal. But every little bit help though.

I bypassed the TB hoses as shown in this image:

Thanks, and that thing is a beast. I haven't met the individual doing the welding but based on the depth I have seen it is stout and I am not going to worry about cracking.

I just got done installing it on the car. I had to grind a little by the fuel rail but that will be incorporated in the final drawing. But it fit great everywhere else and looked good too. I also had to unbolt a wiring harness but a simple adjustment bracket would take care of it.

With that said, there was not as much hood clearance as I would have liked, but just in a couple of spots. There were a couple of points that had only about 0.5 inches clearance when I wanted one inch. I can grind it down some, as it is at a rather thick weld, to give a bit more room.

However, I will most likely have to go with another core that is shorter. Bell Engineering, who I was going to contact anyway, seems to have a wider range of selection so I will check with them. Leaving everything else equal that should still be more than enough intercooler for our needs but give us almost one and a half inches minimum clearance.

That though, is irrelevant to continuing as I will still be sending this off to Brad on Monday for test fitment on his TL. From there, once I get it back, I will then completely install the IC, run the coolant plumbing; mount the pump, reservoir and heat exchanger. So I should have the car running with the IC win about two weeks. Then it is off to the dyno once again. In the mean time I will be checking on sourcing the required parts.

Below are the on car pictures:

I would guess at about 15 lbs. This weighs less than the stock upper intake manifold.

Steve, didn't my TL have more clearance under the hood? If so, and this first one will fit better in a TL, you can send it back to me when the new ones are ready.

I won't be able to test fit the IC until a week from this Monday. I can send it back on Tuesday so you should have it back in time for the weekend. My transmition has been flawless, so I'll re-install the blower that Monday also, and see how that goes.
