You sure spend a lot of time worrying about others cars. Remember these words -- THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMEONE FASTER THAN YOU.

Be happy with what you have and don't worry about how your car will compete against others, especially those that aren't even in the CL-S's class (eg - M5).

NSX kick the shit out of a M5??? I don't think so. Check the numbers, they're pretty close. Yes, its 70k, and the NSX is 80k, but that's like saying you shoulda spent 10k more on a C5, which will kick the shit out of a CLS, agree? Different cars for different purposes.

I was at Sears with my friend's NSX. We were doing the track, not the strip, but I could tell that neither of us were pulling on each other on the straightaway.

My buddy just got a CLS and he's going to get headers soon. I'll let you know the outcome when we run.

a few cars might beat an m5, but almost nothing will kick the shit out of it, for the money the z06 will be its closest competitor as far as speed is concerned.

For the same about of money as an NSX, the Lotus could wipe out the Vette, M5 and the NSX. (BTw.. Lotus Esprit 1/4 mile time of 12.8 secs, source: MT 5/98)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a guy in TX ran his M5 (only mod is Triflo Exhaust), 12.963. So once again, no wiping going on here. Also, the Z06 Vette should do better than that stock, and is almost half the cost of these other cars. And finally if you're going to compare $ amounts only, why not the Viper? I think those things can run low 12s stock!

aLex-maybe the question that you should have asked was 'how do we do against a 5-series bimmer?'--those M5's are freakin supercars--with 4-doors!!!

Err.. I am not trying to be mean! But I read the past post by aLeX123, he sounds like he is the fastest car around, and he is all that and stuff..... Maybe I was wrong, but I read his 540, Cobra, M5, etc... He just make it sounds like his mighty CLS can just take on about anything! Hmm.... is it just me? Sorry, Alex, dun take this personal, but maybe I am just a bit sensitives.....

Its good to be proud of our cars but you dont want to be overconfident...to race an M5 you're gonna need a high-dollar car or a sport bike...notice you live in Houston...we should meet up to race....I'm starting to feel like I got stuck with the slow CL-S when compared to your's

We cannot even come close to the M5 even with bolt-ons...maybe with supercharger or NOS though Off of the top of my head here are a few, reasonable examples of cars we can hang with (being our cars are modded):

Lexus GS430
Lexus SC430
Mercedes C43 AMG
Mercedes S500
Audi S4
Audi TT Roadster
Ford Mustang GT
Chevrolet Camaro Z28 convertible auto (had to add the last two words cuz I don't wanna start any flames )
Porsche Boxster
Porsche Boxster S auto
BMW 540 auto
BMW M3 auto (<2000)
Honda S2000
Toyota Supra N/A
Nissan 300ZX N/A
Jaguar XK8

etc...

Just have to agrre with all the above. We have the best bargain on the market with the easiest, cheapest mods, but a $70K M5? I'm gonna getn one when the premium wears off, I hope.

Well 540 auto are not that fast 1/4 miles, its really true.... but I wonder how it is when it run again a TypeS on freeway, say above 80? Cuz most time, BMWs are flying on freeway instead of Westhimer!

true true.. I totally forgot about the Viper.. fastest stock 1/4 mile time from a mag was 13.07 secs for an M5 (MT 3/01), funny thing is that BMW has 0-60 times of 5.2sec and 1/4 mile time of 13.7 sec, I know these times are way off.. and technically the Lotus Esprit can 'wipe out' a BMW M5 as the M5 is electronically limited to 155 mph and the Lotus Esprit top speed is over 170 mph .. and Corvette Z06 1/4 mile is 12.6 secs. so you are right.. I was thinking about the non Z06 Vette with 345 or 350hp, dunno why but that is the car they compared to the M5 in the motor Trend March 2001 issue. But M5's are the fastest stock sedans I can think of and well worth the 70K.. only wish I could afford one

alright, let's take it easy on Alex, I think he's just a bit naive.

170 for the lotus? is that top speed or top limited speed? I know there are guys that have removed their rev limiter and have gone 180+ in Europe in their M5.

Top speed for Lotus Esprit:
Motor Trend: 179.4 mph
Manufacturer: 175 mph
R&T: 178 mph
C&D: 173 mph
I cannot say with certainty that any of these numbers are limited, but the speedometer goes to 220 mph. http://images.honesty.com/imagedata/...4/30163436.jpg
Not bad for a car with 'only' 350 hp and a 5 speed.. not a 6-speed =)

The top speed listed for a Corvette Z06 is 175 mph but I am sure it could surpass this.

my friend at work has an m5..those things are straight sick! i was following him to a convention center on the highway and he just toyed with me all the way there. I would punch it and try to pass him, but hte m5 was too much. he would just let me catch up to him and then he would pull away like it was nothing.
