New Grille *Pics*

I made a new grille this past weekend.. Nothing fancy... I ordered the material from McMaster-Carr months ago and finally got around to making it.. It's stainless steel with the precut diameter holes painted flat black after I cut it out..

It's a stock grill with all the plastic cut out except the outer ring.. I also had to paint the brace behind the grill flat black..

It just stopped raining and it's shitty out so these are the best pics I could get..

looks tight..... i made the same grill and was debating if i should paint it or not... but damn that looks good.... i have a really tuff gloss black paint that they use to paint parts on fire trucks and it still seems to scratch off pretty easy on the test pieces i have done... any suggestions other than sanding it really good first to keep that from happening

Nice Job

What are the spec's on the material you used? Looks like hexagonal punch outs.

Looks good! What's on the lower inside corners on the grills under the headlights? Looks like holes for fog lights, or is that just a reflection.

I ordered from that site but I believe I chose something different.. I'll have to try and find a receipt for the exact material used.. I spent weeks going back and forth trying to choose something, plus I ordered it back in December so I can't remember.. I just know the sheet cost like $110..

I'm going to use the same method of using a cardboard cutout first, tweak that and then start cutting the metal.. Or maybe I can just duplicate Smittys

I actually took the cardboard cutout and made two pieces of wood from that to sit the metal inbetween and then cut it out on the bandsaw, then trimmed it up.. Worked beautiful..

I'll see what I can do for you..

you did this for the bottom as well????

this sounds a lot easier that they way a did the top grill for mine... i actually just traced the silver trim and then spent a crap load of time with some tin snips... not fun at all. the last guy that posted about doing the bottom said they got frustrated with trying to get it to fit and ended up taking the bumper off to get it right... i dont know what smitty did for the bottom grill but the ones i have seen posted look pretty damn clean..

Looks sweet, although i think it would better if you painted the chrome part of the grill to match the car color.

Nice, I was planning on doing the same black grill.

McMaster-Carr seems to be messing with me though. I checked my bank account yesterday and they did a refund on my purchase of a metal sheet.

but the next morning, the money that went to McMaster-Carr is gone from my bank account again. Maybe they've changed their minds.

And now I have less than 1.00 in my account.

I do like the look of the material you used. To me, it looks more open. That would be great if you could find the specs. I like the black look.

I actually work in the Quality dept at work so I'll take my calipers and check the thicknees and hole diameter and give you guys the exact specs.. I tried calling McMaster-Carr but they only have a record of orders from April on.. WTF...
