New Gen Tranny - Opinions (Mine)

After recieveing my new tranny here are my opinions. I've driven the new tranny for 2.5K .

Well I can't chirp 2nd-3rd, nor can I chip 1st-2nd. They've definatly loweredd 1st rpm point by about 300 rpms.

As for detuning the engine, no. I've dynoed 193 on the dyno in the past, and on the G Meter 191-193. After 5 runs on the same road, with the same weight parameters (gas, $hit in the car). Although the temp was never factored into the tests. The runs averaged 192 (191, 193, 195, 190, 19) . So to me I don't believe that my car's been detuned. Yea it sucks that I can't get over 200, but I guess thats what u have to pay to the gods to live in sunny warm S. Fla. .

Milage hasn't changed either. I'm still doing 300 to the tank, and that is with my driving style. If I blip the throttle every now and then, meaning that I tach out 2nd once in a while. I'll hit 350, but thats stressing fuel economy, feathering the gas.

I will admit that I haven't taken it to the track yet, but the Meter tells me that I am doing 15.1 . That seems somewhat resonable considering I do a 14.9 gutted.

I felt like posting this for others that feel that they are going to get screwed when they get a new tranny. $hit I sure as hell was but Ant assured me that it wouldn't happen. It just takes some time for the new ECU to understand the driver's driving style.

Let's hope it's just the ECU having to relearn after the work was done.

BTW - did you get the "new" ECU upgrade they've been talking about?

Why what else do u think needs to relearn?

No I didn't get the "new" ECU upgrade.
That I think is unnessary what else needs to get retuned?

I just had my tranny replaced 2 weeks ago. This is tranny #3 with the new ECU, I have to admit the car does drive alot more smoth but that Type S feeling is gone. To me the car drives totally diffrent, like night and day, but this new ECU or tranny actually fell more solid (like it might actally last past 50K miles). We will all just have to see...........

Ok, u live in TX, so u experence some high climates, higher than others. Have u noticed slipping when it hot out?

I've noticed that when the car is hot and I've been city driving. I've noticed that I slam the gas and don't move like I usually do, as though the tranny is slipping. I know some of u are going to say that it is due to the higher temps and humidity. Although I've had the tranny shift early. Ex. , 2nd to 3rd at 55, and that is WOT.

When SFLA and I have the time we are going to install tranny coolers. They need them.

I think they changed the shift points of the tranny to not shift at redline or close to it. That may be why you think your car isn't pulling as hard. Plus, they did additional programming in the PCM along with a new FPR to smooth out the shifts. Maybe that's unloading the tranny a bit and giving longer life to them.

Really it wasn't until any of us had the new ECU installed that we thought we had a power loss...

So your observation is correct...

Yes, we have to get this done soon (maybe two weeks from now). Are you bringing the beers?

FPR? Fuel pressure regulator? Nawww, I know that they didn't change that. I aslo confirmed that they didn't change any parameters in teh PCM. They told me that they would not be able to change any parameters without sending it out to be reprogramed.

Sure, absolutlely. Just as long as we split the labor. I drink the beer u do the work. I think that is fair. Sure a beer bottle doesn't weigh much, but the constant raising of the bottle and non-stop twisting of the bottle caps can place serious strain on a man such as myself.

Oh I also waht to meet up with ur Mustang neightboor again.

I have chirped 2nd-3rd in the past, more than a couple but less than plenty, but soon after the tranny craped out. The way it felt was that during the shift from 2nd-3rd the RPMs would stay high, near redline, then shift. Thats how I was able to chirp 2nd-3rd. So there was alot of slippage and that gives reason to me why the ranny crapped out soon there after.

I was able to see what chirping 2nd-3rd does against an opponent when I raced JHEIII850Turbo. He raced me from a light and by the end of 2nd was 1/2 car ahead of me. When I chirped 2nd-3rd I gained that 1/2 car back.

IMuHO. I just thing the chirping part is all a red herring. I think the tranny is just shifting so smoothly that the "bite" of the shift (fu(k, I dunno what to call it) doesn't occur as it did with the old tranny. I do have the new PCM, though...That all being said, it doesn't chirp 1/2 like it used to, but still chirp pretty good. It never chirped 2/3, but downshifting from 3/2 in s/s would just about launch you through the windshield and chirp hard whereas it downshifts smoothly now...

I've had a 3rd - 1st down shift with a FKed up tranny. Oh that really make u want to remember to wear ur seatbelt, thank God I do all the time. The force that throws u forward from a shift like that can easily make u hit ur face/head on the steering wheel.

I was scr=wing around with a 'stang when mine went. It went from 2/3 fine but 3/4 went into 5th....I back it down and slowed to about 75 when the 'stang went by me. I blipped to go 5/4 and it went 5/2 and the tires locked and I smacked my noggin' on the wheel despite the seat-belt. I did find that funny though as my "punishment" for dogging that poor 'stang...
