the mechanic told me something about the endplay on the "tourque rod"??? something like that, was too big and the way they tried to fix it was to shim it but that doesnt always work, so the shims burned up and the rest of the treanny is going, im not a tech guy so this may or may not be true?!

Mine failed on 2/27/03, it was installed on 2/20/03! The dealer took it out for a test drive after they installed it and said it was making a "whining noise," Then they ordered me another on!

I am so sorry I bought a POS Acura. It's total bull shit how they are handling this. 100k warranty is crap (if you got one, I didn't). A car should last to 200k miles. These cares NEVER will. Farking bastiches.

Hmmm...my wife had her tranny replaced on her TL couple of months ago and I noticed a whining sound immediately - sort of like the alternator whine you can get when you install your own stereo....does that sound like what you were hearing?
I really hope we dont' have to take the damn thing back in for another replacement.
She just went over 50k miles, and the cheapest Acura extended warranty we've seen is $1,500 - we're having a hard time deciding if it's worth it or not
I haven't been contacted about an extended tranny warranty at all - dealer told me I have to call the 1-800-Acura number - PITA. Guess I'd better make the time to call and wait on hold

Acura covers the tranny for 100k miles now because of all the problems...you if you get the 100k mile warranty, that covers everything,,,but your TL's tranny should be covered for 100k miles free of charge...

Just because a car is under warranty...original or extended, does not mean that it cannot be "Lemoned". In Ca. 3 attempts to fix the same problem can qualify you for "Lemon" status. If I was on tranny # 3 or #4 I would seriously consider getting an attorney involved!!! Don't let Acura push you around it's total B.S.

We'll see...take a gander at my sig.

First, there was no problem. Then, there was a problem, but not a clear description. Next, the problem had been identified, and a solution set in motion. Finally, the problem had been fixed. What next?

New and Improved Tranny

I too had one of the "new and improved" trannys in my cl-s. I had it replaced back in1/03 and after about 1500 miles it started to shift really hard until it would not go into gear at all.
When I recieved my third transmission, the dealer said that they installed a new chip in the engine that would cause "less stress" on the engine. Does "less stress" ="less horsepower"?

I talked with a parts mgr at a dealer today and he said it's true, the 'fix' for the trannies' is actually worse now. THe new company they got to rebuild them is worse than the original company. He said the initial problem is the CL/TL were originally not planned to go up to 260hp and the planning was based on the 225 hp engine. He knows I have the 6 speed so I think that's why he was so open about the auto trans.

Hehehe, I honestly didn't think there was any difference in the new transes once I got mine put in and noticed everything felt just like how my old one did (although shifting is definitely slower and it doesn't always drop as many gears as it used to when flooring it from certain speeds).

So basically same piece of shit trans only with less performance.

Lovely.

Great, thank you so much for fixing the tranny issue, Honda of America.

I knew this tranny thing wasn't over....the only way to fix the problem is to get rid of my CL.

I wonder if the ECU changes they made affected the Grade Logic system. My latest tranny feels as if it holds gears a bit longer instead of just hunting between gears as the two previous ones did. Does anyone else feel this with the "improved/fixed" trannies or is it just me?

tranny issues

Why do you guys that have had your tranny swapped at least three times even deal with the bullshit? Why not try and get a new car under the lemon law?

ive been dealing with the general mgr of my dealership and a case manager from acura office, and im being dicked around.

the lemon law covers problems originating within the first 15000 miles( mine happened at 20) and you must caclulate the value of the time you've had the car to subtract from the rebate,

clair acura claims they can get me a good deal on a 6sp since i am commited to their product. that hasn't been the case so far. they are trying to make money off me. if anyone knows a dealership in mass that they have had luck with id appreciate it?

the tranny is making a louder whining sound during acceleration now 1st and 2nd gear and on the hwy at 75-80 cruising speed i can hear something spinning in the tranny

i have no idea what to do now...i really need some help if anyone has got some good advice!

I don't ever recall getting a "whining" noise prior to my tranny actually failing and suddenly downshifting.

Can whining noises from the tranny be categorized in the same category as the failures quite a few of us are more than accustomed to???

While it sucks you're going through this types32cl, I don't know if it's fair to put your issue with the new tranny in the same category as the others. That's why I'm looking for clarification...

I have leased three Acuras from Sunnyside in Nashua, NH. The service department isn't as good as it used to be, but it's pretty good...most of the time. If you call Sunnyside, ask for Sean, and tell him Pete with the Silver CL-S sent you. It may not help much, but he may be more reasonable with you if he knows I sent you. Hope this helps.

the whining noise must be happening to more people than just me, because the service mgr told me the had some come back, plus when i told him what was up and he had someone look at it and they ordered a new tranny on the spot, and he said that he couldnt guaranteee me that the new one wouldn't have the same prob, when i asked him what else to do he gave me the customer service # and they hooked me up with a case mgr. they know whats going on and hide it until someone has a problem, its a faulty product and putting a new one in won't help and they know that. the prob is for a poor sucker like me who bought a $ 33000 and 2-3 yrs down the road its worth $10-15k and acura wants to offer $1500 in assistance

Just don't get the 6-speed or you might be in the same boat again.
