new comptech header install...

Hey everyone,

so I own a 2001 Acura 3.2CL-P...all i could afford. well anyway, this NON Type-S needed some help under the hood. I recently installed the comptech headers and you can definitely feel the difference in power from the second i hopped in! I'm essentially here to pass the news to everyone: that it is indeed a great mod...most horsepower for the money for our Acks from my research...

the car DOES sound different...now note: it is NOT louder, but the tone is simply different...if you are looking solely for sound, the catback exhaust is the way to go, but if you do that, you have to add the extra power from the headers to get the full effect. highly recommended for those of you who are in my position now as i was when i was looking for a simple and quick mod. Comptech claims up to 32 HP at the wheels and it is definitely felt!!! money well spent!!

just a question if you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for the comptech headers?

I wouldn't touch DC sports with a 3 meter pole unless I see some feedback from another member saying they are worth the money.

plus the "new" dc design isn't for 6-speeds ( i heard).

there's a non-comptech headers thread in here somewhere.

they are worth the $$, I've had em on for a little less than a year and they are still holding up well. Only flaws are from me bottoming out and denting the downpipe a little bit. No resonance problems, but i have the copper gaskets, the paper ones they give you were blown in a few weeks.

also, does anyone know facts about whether or not gas mileage is affected?...

i have now had the headers on for a week, and i drove the car hard as usual, and if i have enough data, it would seem i now get SLIGHTLY better gas mileage (??), but this is complete speculation, any facts please? thx.

and i hope the person that asked how i spent for headers wont say...oh you coulda spent that much more on the car and got a Type-S, blah, blah, blah...well im a car enthusiast, like to mod, and picked a good car...and here on the forums, we all know the Type S has a lot more potential, but among other car companies, my car is indeed faster, and yes i do hail to TypeS's lol. but we all have that same sexy design...

You should get slightly better gas mileage since the headers are less restrictive, but if you're like me you'll end up with your foot in it a lot more (enjoying the extra power) and end up getting worse mileage.

i heard the Megan's are crap. If you don't want to spend the $1,000+ on the Comptechs, look at the XS headers or the DC's

Well I was thinking why didn't you get the type S for a little more but I understand completely why you did so. I had a 95 integra ls and fully customized...its fun. But I've learned when you get the base model on any car your going to spend alot more money on a customized car that some people with a type s feel as soon as they drive the car. Either way its personal pref. so more power to ya. Enjoy the new headers!!!

I bought some and I kick but with them!! I have a friend who has a Modded WRX and I kill him now from the start up until 4th gear!! If you do buy them make sure you call AEM first and get the 3 bolt flange. I bought the 2 bolt not knowing what would happen and it cause a major exhaust leak on the down pipe. Needless to say I sent them back and DC sports is making me some and i should be getting it this week..
