New CL, small problem.

New CL, small problem.

Hey guys, I just got CL-S 6MT recently. Today I decided to debadge the rear. It was going pretty well, I got the A C U R A off flawlessly. The 3.2CL is what started causing problems though. I got the badge off, but the glue refuses to come off. I'm pretty sure it's glue and not permanent damage because when I run my finger over it, it's all bumpy.

I removed the 3.2 CL badge using a hairdryer, a ton of thread/floss, and Goo Gone. I tried: rubbing Goo Gone into the glue crap with my hands, spraying a ton of Goo Gone over the area and just letting it sit, heating up the glue stuff, heating up the glue stuff while the Goo Gone was on it, taking car wash solution and just applying it (w/o water) straight onto it, and I think that's about all I've tried so far. I ended up just giving up and doing a quick wash of the car and calling it a day.

Searched the forum, most people seem to have gotten the glue off fine and just have slight 'marks' where the badge used to be. For me, it's as though the glue refuses to come off.

yea happens to most of us... just try waxing it out... its just build up from the years that has past...

EDIT: ok nvm i just looked at your pictures and idk how that happen... maybe you should go in the wax/wash section

Since it's bumpy, you may want to try a low speed orbital buffer and some polish. I haven't seen anything like that before. Congrats on the new car though, welcome to the forum. SSM is a nice color!

Did you try a using a claybar. Although I'm not even sure a claybar will remove that. It looks really sticky.

Thats odd that you cant get the glue off.

Have you tried WD-40? Whatever solvents you do end up using, just be sure to wax over the area again as you most likely have removed the wax with the glue.

Is the glue kinda rubbery like or is it really hard. I know when my friend bought his audi the previous owner had debadged it and when she sold it she just superglued the badge back on so the clear coat was damaged under the emblem when he tried to debadge it. Not sure if this is your case tho.

That same thing happened to me. It gave me a blister but I rubbed my thumb over the glue until it got hot and it started to peel off. Then once it was loosened, I hit it with a dry microfiber towel, then I got the rest off with goo gone and waxed it. A hair dryer and a terry cloth could work too. When it's that sticky, it seems to just need friction to come off as solvents didnt work well for me.

the only way i could get mine off was with a box cutter blade... shaved all of it off till there was a very tiny layer left... then used some turtle wax stuff for scratches/grime removal... forgot the name. and scrubbed the SHIT outta the resin. used one of those double-sided scrubber for dishes... used the abrasive side and WENT TO TOWN on the glue.

P.S not a single scratch in the removal process.


Just be very careful when using the razor blade.

Just needs to be heated up, I used an old credit card to gently peel it up

oh no. paint damage galore.

soak a towel in warm water and let it sit over the glue for 10-15 minutes. come back with a microfiber towel and rub it off rigourously.

follow up with a paint compound and another strong microfiber rub down.
paint should be hazy after this process, repeat until its all gone.

follow with a light polish, like meguairs over the counter stuff

hit it with nxt wax and walk away

I think it is in fact super glue
I tried the WD-40, didn't really do anything.

I'm gonna try the other methods you guys posted tomorrow, hopefully it will come off before I have to resort to using a razor blade. Now I'm kinda wishing I never debadged it. Until then i'll have to drive around in my retarded trunked CL

dude that's what happened to me i was 100miles from home at a buddys house in a remote area and decided to debadge the ACURA after drinking. and once i got the emblems off i realized I was in for more than I bargained for. did it in about 50 mins all said and done for start to finish.

Attempted at getting the glue off again today. Nothing was working, so i resorted to the blade method. Only, when I get a little bit of the glue off, it started peeling some paint too =(

Looks like I'm just gonna be leaving the glue there, better than a giant blog of stripped paint. I'm so glad my CL is SSM though, kind of hides the stripped paint. I put sealant over the stripped paint area, hopefully it'll keep it from getting worse.

did they epoxy the crap out of that hahaha shouldnt have been that hard to get it off. i Usually use a credit card and blow dryer.

not feeling the type s their. had a similar problem. i just used goo gone on a rag and a lot of elbow grease. over and over again. then clay bar, wax buff and all that other good stuff. and its all gone. just have the new paint under the emblems and teh faded paint on teh rest of the trunk. so i got outlines

I ran into a bit of the same issue when removing the side trim that had been on the car for 7+ years. Clear residue, but almost rock-hard (that's what she said) I remember quite a few sessions of goo-gone-ing. I had more luck 'scraping' said residue w/ my fingernail (saturated in goo-gone) than w/ paper towel or cloth. I used Meguiars Scratch X to get rid of the 'shadowing.' Then, a healthy amount of waxing. Good luck. You got bigger balls and a steadier hand than me if you're using a razor

I had the same problem and just used some bug and tar remover. Worked like a charm with a little elbow grease. I never would have taken a razor to it

Goo gone, or goo off should do the job just fine, just gotta soak the hell out of the glue, and not leave it on your clear coat for long, goo gone, some elbow grease, and some heat is all you need
