New Brakes

Hello everyone,

I know this topic gets talked about a lot, and I have done as much research as I can on this so here is where I am....

I need new brakes, I purchased the car used in 05 and as far as I can tell, they are running stock. The steering wheel shakes a little when I am stopping fairly hard from about 50 to 0 to get to a red light.

I have narrowed it down to Satisfied Pro Ceramics up front (~45 for 2 @ Tirerack) and the Satisfied Pro Perform in the back (~22 for 2 @ Tirerack). I've heard good things about the Brembo blanks as well, so I was planning on putting those all the way around.

My question is, can I order 4 Brembo brakes from tirerack and put them at all 4 corners or do they not have the rears in stock?? Also, how do the Perform brakes add up compared to the Ceramics. I'm pretty sure the fronts do most of the work so thats why I've gone w/ the slightly better setup up front.

I do not do any hard driving, except for the occasional empty road. I don't track and I'm by no means a stop light drag racer. I just want something that will last a while and give a little better than stock feel.

Thanks for any input.

BTW: I have an 03' CL Type S

I put pretty much that set up on mine last summer. Brembos (front only) and Satisfied Pro ceramics all the way around.

I like it just fine so far. You probably don't need rear rotors if this is the 1st brake job. The fronts are the ones that get all the warpage from slowing this heavy suckers down. Plus Honda/Acura rotors are famous for warping. If you did a lot of heavy braking, I'd suggest a heftier rotor, but the Brembos are fine for street use.

You have dust? I don't.
I wonder if the slots are the reason?

Alright, sounds like the Satisfied Pros are the way to go, but where can I get brembo blanks for the rear? They don't seem to have them at Tire rack and I am new to the braking game.

Satisfied Pros were out of stock when I wanted to try them out, so I got OE pads. Dang..
I definitely wanna try them out next time though.

So I was doing some research today about sway bars (another upgrade I wanted to do, but different topic) and found these summit brakes

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...9&autoview=sku

Are these going to be much better than the Brembo blanks? Has anybody ever used these before? I'm not sure on the quality of these, the old saying "you get what you pay for" seems relevant here. Cross drilled and slotted for $140 for the pair up front? Seems too good to be true.

You can use stock blanks on the rear. They don't seem to suffer from the warping problem that the fronts do and then still go with the Brembos for the front.

Yes they do. They only have a lessor instances because the fronts are used more in braking.

I'll take your word for it. I only have me personal experience to go on with these cars. I just changed the front rotors with pads on all four wheels and all of my brake problems went away. Then, I don't generally brake real hard except in an emergency. If the brakes are used more heavily, then I can see where you might warp the rears.

So if I am a regular driver where most of my daily driving is 20 highway miles each way to work and the 20 mile hike (18 of which are highway) to my girlfriends place really worth getting upgraded rotors for the rear?

And again, I am not a weekend warrior who goes to the track or turns every road I'm on into a track... thanks for all the suggestions so far!

The short answer is no, you don't need to upgrade the rears.

Check out www.brakeworld.com, pretty good prices on Brembo Blanks. I ordered from them a few years ago! But in my opinion, go for Rotora slotted's......you'll be very satisfied!

Anyone tried EBC. I've heard pretty good things about redstuff being able to handle the weight of these cars.

I've run Hawk blues and EBC yellow on the Type R, but don't have any experience with either street pad. Any help?

I do brake pretty hard and the rears are gone. Plenty left in the OEM fronts, but the rears need new rotors and pads. Thought I would upgrade the front pads as well.

Sorry to borrow your post, but it seemed like a good place to start...

That's kind of unusual to use up the rears before the fronts. All the weight is in the front of the CLs. Anyway, do a search on the forum. There is a lot of good info available. Seems to me that I read here somewhere that the EBCs were pretty good but didn't last too long. I could be wrong though, it's been a while since I saw the post.

Thanks, starter. Already tried searching. I'm the second owner of this 6-speed and bought the car with 21,000 miles. I got a report from the dealer and it was treated like a princess (Mobil1 around every 2,000 miles, etc., all recalls, etc.) I'm sure the front pads had been replaced, but I think the rears are original. (Parking brake has lost it's grip as well.)

I'll have to wait for the snow to melt to replace pads, so wanted to put in a little research to make sure I'm getting the best setup I can for the value.

Appreciate the help.
