The new AV Electronics navi conversion

This was done to calidog's TL-S. Check out how easy this navi conversion is! No navi wire spilicing required! 3 RCA inputs! A TV tuner! It's sweet! And you switch back and forth between the navi and navi conversion by remote...

click on navi conversion.

cost me $495 for the unit and $75 for the Blitz Safe Adapter. Streeteffectz unit cost too much, they quoted me $800+ for extra inputs and a TV tuner incorporated into it. Did you install yours already?

oh and not only is the StreetEffectz unit overpriced but it took them 3 months to send me the thing and then another 2 weeks to send me a working one... even though they charged me the day i placed the order.

fucking morons.

yeah, good thing someone around here pointed me to this unit. I'm so happy with it. I can give you the guy's contact. He got the unit out 2 days later after I ordered it. He's pretty helpful so let me know if you want his email. pics are on peiqinglong's site.

I installed the same AV electronic convertor in my 2002 cls. Works great! I have a reverse camera in input 3 and a dvd player for input 1. It was all plug and play with no wire cutting at all. Pics are below courtesy of silverknight

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...threadid=94431

Got it for 400 off a group buy on the acuramdx site. sound through blitz adaptor. Accele reverse image bullet camera.

yeah that's a great module, I love it. I'm still thinking whether i should mount a camera or not. Is it worth it? I installed some AV inputs in my rear ashtray for input 2. I have a pic of it under the navi section.

Just click on the link I provided and click "Navi Conversion". I've detailed virtually every step in the installation and all the tools you need.

calidog,
The AV inputs in the ashtray are tight.
What kinda DVD player did you get? And where did you put it?

The rear camera isn't too difficult to mount. The tough part was doin all of the research to find a good one. Plus, its great for scoping out who's behind ya.

the AV inputs are nice but be careful with putting them there if you have big hands. I don't have big hands and I still have a little trouble plugging things into there. It's a nice hidden location though. About the DVD player, I put mine in the glove box. It's actually a nice one since it plays all region DVDs, DVD-R, VCD, CDr, MP3 and CD. It's only slightly bigger than a discman. I picked it up in Taiwan. One of those No-brand-Made-in-Taiwan players but works well!

The camera I have is a made by accelevision. It is waterproof, color, reverse image, 92H 72v and 130D, 0.2 lux sensi, about the size of a small lipstick. In low light, it switches to black and white. The picture is very clear and is great even in very low light. It looks a lot like and has similar specs to the one on the AV elec site.

calidog,

The camera comes with a mounting bracket that I secured with some metal plates from Home Depot to the rear metal bumper (not the plastic shell). It peaks over the rear license plate. It's not noticeable unless you are looking for it and has a great view of the rear of the vehicle.
Silverknight did a stealth install in his car with the same camera. He mounted his in the lower part of the license plate. Very clean.

I already have the Blitzsafe adapter and am using it with my FM modulated XM unit so I can have digital sound. My question is can I use this device to do the navi conversion and still use my XM unit? I am assuming I can just plug it into one of the other inputs and then also hook up a DVD and PS2.

Does anyone know why are my signature tags not working and making my text smaller?

your ending SIZE tag is missing the [

you put:
/size]

it's supposed to be:
[/size]

Is it possible to wire it so that the camer comes on and the input switches automatically when you put the car in reverse? Or does that have to be done all by hand?

The nav tuner device on the AV Elec site will automatically switch to input 3 when the car is shifted into reverse. I have the camera wired to be on whenever the car is on so that I can manually switch to input 3 with the remote anytime i want.

At the moment, it only seems like StreetEffectz has it.

AV Electronics also has the Blitz Safe Adapter but it's the same price as StreetEffectz.

2 1/2 hours from start to finish, but I've done this a few times before. Yes you still need to buy a DVD player. I didn't remove the rear seat, just the rear console and I mounted the unit under the NAVI DVD player. The hardest part is fishing the wires under the rear carpet hump. The rest is plug and splice and play.
