Need advice -Radar Detector

Guys,

The last year I have been using my now, x-girlfriend's radar detector. anyways...the bitch came over and took it back...now I need to go out and buy one because I have started to rely on it so much. I know the Valentine detector is great, however, I don't want to spend more than $250...Can you guys suggest anything like Bel, etc.... I would prefer cordless too, but that isn't a big deal

I have the V1 and its great. But if you really wanna stick to the budget you mentioned, then go with the 2nd best, the 8500 by Escort.

forgot to add that once you use the arrows and the bogey counter, you can't go without them.

honestly, get the v1 it'll pay for it self. Why waste 250$ on a shitty detector that doesn't work and still get hundred dollar tickets, when you can get the v1 for a little bit extra and have that extra protection. It's worth the cash, trust me; i've convinced everyone in my family to get one and now they are in every car.

Dude, where have you been?

This is not California 10 or 20 years ago when a radar detector was mostly no good in that State. Today radar is all over that state...and so are radar detectors.

Radar detectors really do work. Read all about the V1 here. Don't believe the rumors.

The device is absolutely amazing. It does work, many people can attest to its superior detection range and sensitivity. Worth every penny!!!

I love mine!

I guess the one i used like 2 years ago just really sucked (since it was 100 dollars haha) Well I dont know... so your saying if I get a radar.. most likely my chances of getting a speeding ticket is very slim? b/c I already have so many points on my insurance for speeding its not even funny. I guess I should invest in one

A radar detector will NOT save you from getting a ticket. Instant-On radar can be a bitch to detect, so it takes some sensible driving as well. But I will say the V1 REDUCES the chance of getting one. But it no way eliminates the possibility.

There are two kinds of radar detectors: very good ones and junk. Go with a very good one like the V1 or the 8500 and you'll certainly notice the difference. With a few years of experience, you'll find you can easily enjoy years and years of speeding ticket-free driving. You must get the practice and get use to the detector and work WITH it, combined with your visual senses and instincts, for maximum effect.

repeating what everyone said: escort passport 8500, but if you manage, v1 is THE way to go. None will save you from lazer. For lazer you need a good jammer (lidetek or k40). those are relaly expensive though

I have the escort passport 8500 and it rocks, for the money there is nothing better and I have tried several . I cant begin to count the number of tickets it has saved me .

if you want to spend the extra $ then the V1 would be a good choice as well.

BEL 960 that I have, I spent around 250ish for. Pretty good performance overall for the bucks. Saved my butt quite a few times already. I would recommend it

Just what i was gonna say. I mean you can get the Passport, but that's $300, so you might as well fork over the extra $100. You won't be sorry, do it

Ok quick dumb question.

I have a bel 985 (just picked up quite cheap)

It has a mode where it will tell you the strength of the signal it is receiving i.e. x-band-10.525, K band-24.150, Laser-900NM, Ka band-33.4-36.0Ghz.

My stupid question question is that, as the numbers above for the respective bands get bigger i.e. increase that means the signal is getting stronger rite? I.e. if I see the numbers increasing steadily, that means I should be a bit more wary as I'm driving. no?

unsure

No those numbers are the frequency of the radar/laser gun being used. They are really for information only. They do not indicate anything else. The beeps, or bars are what tell you how close or far the radar/laser is.
