neutral dropping? how bad does it damage...

i was wondering how badly doin a neutral drop (reving up in neutral for autos then slamming it into drive) will damage your tranny and engine. also how much faster your 1/4 mile would be. i got a stock 2001 auto cl-p so i need all the help i can get. also i was wondering how the other auto people on the board race from a stop light. im not really the best driver so im kinda lost. do you just keep it in drive then floor it or shift down to d3 etc..... thx

Man you should be banned for asking such a stupid question like that or even THINKING about doing something like that.

You probably already have done this to your car or you wouldn't be asking. The tranny will DIE in no time doing this, and guess what, the dealer won't fix it. They can tell if it was abused or not.

IF you do it to a scumbag's car, it's OK!

I sent your IP to the dealers in your area and they will be on the look out for you when your tranny goes... (j/k).

If you were trying to kill or maim a scumbag or other planetary wart (Bin Laden, Charles Manson, Saddam, etc), I'd suggest 20-30 neutral drops before returning the car and sending them on a long high-speed journey with heavy trucks tailgating (Spontaneous Downshift Helps Planet” – news at 10).

Well, to answer ur question....don't so will damage ur engine, tranny, torque convertor.

First off, don't what u discribe only works with a Manaual car. with Automatics, u probably get worse time then better time. What happen is ur torque convertor isn't ready to move while ur engine is already reving high, and when u drop into drive, u will get this huge jolt...then ur car will move.

Whoa...i never saw anyone get flamed so bad! Power braking is bad for your car too so don't do that either. i believe that it damages your torque converter. I am not mechanix though so I mightbe wrong. I just remember hearing that it was a no-no.

Break torquing a car is much easier on the transmission components. When I am bracket racing my Z I usually stage and then while holding the break, bring the engine right up to the "flash point" or "stall point" of the converter... This is the point where the torque converter will actualy lock up and begin sending power to the wheels.

For me on my stock transmission this is 1850rpm. For my Z28 you can purchase aftermarket torque converters that offer even higher stall speeds.

I don't exactly know what my Accord or the slushbox CL's stall at, but holding the car with the break and bring the revs up slightly will increase your time and if done for a short amount of time will not damage your transmission.

Now, yes you will see people, usually us muscle car folks torque the car way up and sit there smoking the tires... YOUR TRANSMISSION WILL NOT LIKE YOU if you just sit there burning the tires and sitting still..

Dustin

there is nothing wrong with neutral drops. these guys are just ragging you cause they know your clp will keep up with their s's if you do that. go ahead, the tires just break loose, how's that going to hurt your tranny. Not a single one of them has ever killed a tranny by doing it so how would they know.

post some of your kill stories next time you try it.

No, but I cracked a driveshaft (or crankshaft?) in a Prelude doin' it. It is not something you really wanna try. Unless, you wanna break shit on your car!

HOW OLD ARE YOU? You are officially got a new name. "DUMBSHIT".

Neutral drops DESTROY a Auto transmission. You are stupid if you think otherwise!

No one listen to this guy, he just lost his reputation on this site. lol

Don't listen to all those negative talk about the bad results of slamming your gear to drive at 6000 rpm. The trick is that you have to do it right to get it to work. If you rev it to 8000 rpm and slam it real quick to drive and you must floor the gas pedal at the same time, your quarter mile ET should be somewhere in the low 13's, maybe even in the high 12's depending on your practice and skill. I would strongly suggest that you try it You just might post the lowest ET on this board All those against it are just jealous of your guts, JUST DO IT

Yeah!! Let me try a neutral drop from 8 grand. Your CAR won't post a low 13, but the tranny (or a few gears, clutch packs, etc.) might, but I don't know if they count that. I wouldn't do this with a GOOD auto, let alone our POS.
