Needed a battery ... what a ripoff

Took my CL-S in for the SRS light today but not before the battery failed trying to get there. While scheduling the bogus SRS troubleshooting ($190 for a "19 point" diagnostic), I asked about getting a new battery. Guy says fine ... they're $75. I say yeah ok. Then he says .... WE CHARGE $62.50 TO INSTALL IT. WTF??? What's he smoking. Well it's on to Sears after they finish screwing me on the SRS light.

Note: The service tech even said that a failing battery can trip the SRS light so I'm thinking ... oh never mind.

Umm $62.50 to replace a battery, that's a rip. I would recomend an Optima Yellow top.

Yeah ... the dealer says it's either the battery or the whole unit ($600-700). Said to buy a new battery and see if the light comes back on. Then he says "That'll be $187 please" to which I reply ... "charge it to my Acura Care Ext Warranty" ... to which he says "sorry, we can't because we didn't repair anything." WTF again.

Out looking at a new Accord today!!

From my experance, yes, especially if your looking to run added electronics.

If your lookin at the new accord coupe (with a 6sp I hope) head to Sears for battery.

IMO new accord isn't bad preformance wise and int. styling, not big fan of ext.

If you don't have any added elctronics (amps and such) or don't plan to add on later, the red top should be enough for you.

Yeppers ... I have had enough with worrying about the tranny. I have 89,000 miles on my CL and really love it. But that last 5 ==> 2 downshift makes you think twice (or more) about barrelling down the freeway at 100. Took me a week to clean the driver's seat after that little episode.

I figure I can sell my CL now with 11K miles left on the ext warranty (Acura Care) and get more than if I wait to pass 100K.

Bottom line, I just don't trust the car. Drove the Accord, and yeah it's not my CL but I can get a loaded EX with V6, voice activated Navi, dual climate controls, blah blah blah for under $28K out the door. That's about 10K less than the TL and right now, that's what the finances allow. Plus, the Accord runs on reg gas and I could save a few bucks there (at 22K miles a year).
