Need Valentine 1 owners advice
O.K, i got the Valentine One for Fathers day and was looking for feedback from owners. How many of you have " hard wired " it ? If so, is there any down side to doing it ? What's the upside in your opinion. For those of you who haven't are you satisfied, or are you planning to " hard wire " eventually. Thanks for your thoughts.

To me hardwiring is the only way to go. It's clean and it compliments the interior of your vehicle. Plus IMO, it's safer to mount the detector high and out of your way. A misplaced radar detector can fatally injure you or your passenger(s) in the event of even a minor traffic collision.
There are several good way to mount and hardwire your V1 but check out the FAQ for Shawn's EZ D-I-Y instructions.
BTW, congrats on our V1 purchase. During your research (searching this forum for older posts on the V1), please ignore my comments on the V1 posted prior to December 2000, thank you.

I’m going to have to look around and see if I have any of those OLD posts saved in the archives on my Hard Drive.
You & I got into some great arguments.
I’m glad both you and Red Rider were able to “see the light”.
BTW….A “hard wire” install is the way to go.

if u hard wire it u can hide it an mount it at the top of ur winshield. plus the cord looks stupid plugged into the cigarette lighter. u should also get the optional display unit so u can mount that by ur speedo and easily see what is going on

I just did the install last night with Shawn's instructions and I also did the remote! It looks real clean and from the outside of the car is not to noticeable! I especially like not having a coiled cord dangling to the power outlet! Took about 1/2 hour playing around!

I posted a little pic of my hard-wired V1 a while back. It differs from the one in the FAQ because I have the detector mounted on the passenger side of the mirror (no reason to bother the driver with it when you have the remote), and I have the remote down on the center console instead of near the gauges. Just personal preferences, and a couple more options for ya.

Thanks to all, looks like i'll be hard wiring based on the feedback. I was mostly concerned about the look, and i don't think i want the wire going down to the plug, too visible and clutters the look. Thanks again.

I took a little different route. I mounted the remote under the "not an ashtray" between the seat heater switches. Very clean and it was useless space to me.
