Need Some Help.. Flooding question

I got this email from a girl I'm dating/seeing whatever you want to call it.. Does anyone have any insight?

" *** left her sunroof open and it rained...A LOT...enough that when we opened the door it was like a cartoon and the rain just flowed out...
now when she turns on her seat heaters, she gets wet...is there anything that can be done to leather to fix this problem?"

Why would this only happen when the seat heaters are turned on?

Air within the cushion heats and expands pushing some of the remaining water out.

She might want to leave the heater on for a while and hope it doesn't (or maybe does) catch fire. Also, leave the entire car open on a hot sunny day and hope a storm doesn't creep up.

You can also put a portable dehumidifier inside a closed car overnight. This is what we did when I detailed cars and the interior got extra wet while cleaning.

get something to pull the moisture out of the car, something like they use in basements or something. Hope she doesnt get mold in her car....it could kill her....and tell her to watch the weather channel once a week.

bummer. sorry to hear it.

see if you can locate a local auto upholstery shop. ask what to do for flooded interior. even after letting it dry out for a while you may get damp spots and mold (d@mn-it). an upholstery shop should be able to tell you if the seats are shot . also the carpet and padding.

most of the insualtion in the seats, carpet, door panels, dash, etc are just like sponges. they'll soak up and retain water for a long time. they may also deform after drying out. the leather surfaces may be fine, but the backing and padding are a completely different story.
